Episode 626: The 2024 Deucie Awards (and the Top 10 of the Year)

Normally, when you hear "A tradition unlike any other", you think The Masters, as that's the slogan. However, it is a slogan that more closely describes THE DEUCIE AWARDS!!

For the 11th time, Dave and Mikey, now joined by #XLessDrEarl, preside over the "people's movie awards"... and the top 10 of the year as well!

And to assist, the Deucecast crew invites in many friends of the show, from Burgess to Kaufman to Aussie to the Ryfuns and even more -- with an assist from The Main Street Electrical Podcast co-host Jenn Novotny, it's quite an award-fest!

In addition, Dave, Mikey, and Dr Earl give their own fave films of the year -- you can likely guess the films that make all three lists, but there are a few out of left field as well.

Make sure to catch Ep 621 from a few weeks ago, where we do our "just outside the top ten" list...

Make sure to follow along with the winners!

Deucecast Classic: 2016's All Time Top Ten

It's a classic ep this week, as we combine TWO episodes -- Ep 214 and Ep 218, both from March 2016 -- with special guests Clay Shaver and Jeremy Burgess

Both episodes run through our (then) all time top 10 movies, as we were finishing up a series giving our top 100...

Here are the original show notes!

Finally... it's here!  Dave, Mikey & Pinky have entered the Top Ten in our year long series of our Top 100 favorite films... and because it's so monumental, the Deucecast Movie Show gang had to bring in two of their favorite dozen or so guests -- Local Birmingham filmmaker Jeremy Burgess and host of the Remodeling Clay podcast Clay Shaver -- to give senseless... er, senseful films.

But first, a rousing game of Chronology, with great categories like "The Mitten"... "Bale-Out"... "Mikey Likey"... and of course, the always loved "Potent Potables".

Starting with a reminder of how each of the participants came up with their own Top Ten.

Jeremy offers up a John Carpenter masterpiece, talks about his favorite horror films and the movie that "is underrated for being overrated" and possible "date rapey".

Pinky falls in love with Anna Kendrick and cancer, talks about a movie fetish and lists the best Rings film...

Clay discusses a Vietnam classic, his best Kevin Smith and a quintessential buddy cop film...

Dave has more Anna Kendrick meets airport stories, celebrates a sinking ship and an Elton John song...

and Mikey feels some heat, feels some Breakfast and has some romance. Some True Romance.

Also, Kate Hudson may or may not come on our show, ever...

Next, how lowly ranked should "Pulp Fiction" actually be?

And... coming soon, a new reality show called... "The Burgeler"?

AND THEN

It's been a year in the making, but here it is... five films from Mikey, from Dave, and from Pinky, along with special guests Remodeling Clay Shaver and local filmmaker Jeremy Burgess, who give their five of all time.

Jumping right in, with Mikey's #5, the discussions flow on where Diehard 2 stands in the original trilogy... two Gregory Peck films... the delight of "In Bruge"... a double dose of Andy Dufresne... Harrison Ford makes a big splash... when "Pulp Fiction" is too low... a film that millennials should discover... Dave's previous favorite film ever until this one... Thoughts on "Blade Runner 2"... Pinky's weird party going habits... the generation gap between Bale's & Keaton's Batman... how to get ripped off after being paid $4 billion... and who does Jeremy think is kidding when they talk about their favorite film?

Plus, tips on creating your own Top 100...

Episode 625: Wrasslin' Movies (ft The Gloss)

FINALLY... Steve Glosson has COME BACK... to... The Deuuuuuuucecast...

Fresh off a heckuva WrestleMania 40 weekend, Mikey and Dave chat a little bit about their favorite WWE Superst... WWE Wrestlers in movies!  And the best way to do that is to bring on someone who appears on a Wrasslin show, the original Geek, Steve Glosson.

First, a mandatory discussion about WM40, which took place a day before recording, with favorite matches, what the WWE did right, the storytelling, maybe a few things we'd change and more.

Then, we dive into our Top 5 movie roles of professional wrestling superstars - both past and present - with the rule being we cannot list anyone more than once.

Getting their due are the usuals like The Rock, Cena, Bautista and more... and a few names out of left field, like Big Daddy Kool... Bam Bam Bigelow... and a former WCW Champion.

Also, random chatter on things like the Superman Death storyline in comics... Civil War in comics and movies... an upcoming documentary passion project from Steve... d$'s 200th episode coming up... and anything else we can think of!

Movies discussed:

  • Be Cool
  • Body Slam
  • The Condemned
  • Grown-Ups 2
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • The Iron Claw
  • Jumanji
  • Major Payne
  • The Marine
  • No Holds Barred
  • The Princess Bride
  • The Punisher
  • The Resurrection of Gavin Stone
  • The Resurrection of Jake the Snake
  • The Rundown
  • Scream
  • Spider-Man
  • They Live

Episode 624: The Pretentious Corner

It's been promised forever, and The Deucecast Movie Show has finally delivered.  Pretention reigns on this episode, as d$ is out of town and Mikey is relegated to behind the scenes where no one can hear him whine.

#XLessDrEarl is here and shedding the show of the uncultured swine of a Kevin James fan known as d$ and the Nic Cage apologize called Mikey, bringing in Friend of the Show Jeremy "Miss Independent" Burgess and part time co-host Lil G, Garrison "Pride of Albany" Ryfun to discuss all things pretentious.

First, a little Oscars chat... then a take on Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire... an update on Burgess' film "Don't Die"... streaming services (RIP FilmStruck) to find such pretentious films... and a definition of Pretention from the crew.

They list their five fave pretentious films, including gems from Wim Wenders (pronounced VIM VENDERS by the way) and Malick and Fassbender and much, much more. Grab your smoking jacking, swirl your brandy snifter, and adjust your monocle...
