Episode 261: The Carrie Show (with Rogue One discussion)

A special retrospective brings on a TechnoRetro Dad, that being Shazbazzar from TRD.  Shaz joins d$, Mikey, & Pinky and Wit Stillman fan, Terence Malick Apologist & Film Historian Dr. Earl as the gang talks about the legacy of Carrie Fisher, who we lost in December of 2016.

The discussion ranges from her legacy as an actress to her comeback, overcoming her demons, as well as listing the favorite Carrie Fisher movies that are NOT Star Wars.  She did so much as a producer, writer, script doctor and more besides being Princess Leia, and this episode shines a spotlight on that.

Films like Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back... The Blues Brothers... The 'Burbs... Soapdish and so much more.

Then, Star Wars enters the discussion, and her legacy as Leia, and what's next for the Star Wars universe as it moves on without her.

PLUS... to end the episode, America's favorite running segment where a 20 something discusses movies in the 90s, PRETTY IN PINK!  Pinky talks about "Hackers", while Shaz assigns a classic.

And bonus segment!  Keep listening after the credits and you'll hear a spoiler filled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story discussion

Episode 259: The (Not) 2016 Top Ten

The year of 2016 produced some great films, but there were many seen by Mikey, Dave and Pinky that they considered great as well.  So while the guys are still finishing up their 2016 Best Of lists, they also wanted to mention the other films not in 2016 that were seen in 2016 but weren't from 2016, but were seen in 2016.  Capeche?  Good.

And back to the show a big warm welcome goes to Remodeling Clay Shaver, host of the Remodeling Clay podcast (find on iTunes, drops every Thursday!), as he is here to give his list as well.

Birthday movies proves what a dearth of good films are out in January, and a round of Denzel shows how tough James Franco and Seth Rogen films can be.

Then, the Not 2016 Top Ten, with final reviews and more love lavished on Brie Larson for her turn as a captured mother... on Kurt Russell for fighting off the cannibals... for Ben Stiller in a Baumbach underrated film... on Phillip Seymour Hoffman for bedding Marisa Tomei... on Ben Affleck for the heists and the Amy-chasing... and so much more.

Episode 258: 2016's Lumps of Coal

Throughout the year, there are good movies, there are bad movies, and there are movies that Dave, Mikey and Pinky watch that are just terrible.  So as the last of the Christmas themed episodes, the trio give their worst films of the year they've seen.

A great round of The Denzel Game kicks off the episode, as they try to come up with who starred in "Slow West"... Pinky mentions the words "Midnight Meat Train"... Who is Marion Cotillard?... and what exactly is that "Female baseball movie" called??

And then... the worst films of 2016. The films that just hurt the eyes that watched them and melded the brains that absorbed them.  Movies like "Transporter: ReFueled" or "Goya's Ghost" or the Village People bio pic, "Can't Stop the Music".

Turkeys that starred the normally beloved Nat Portman or Bill Murray or Marisa Tomei or Larry the Cable Guy...

And how can you not love a movie with Bugs Bunny AND Michael Jordan?  Dave tells you how.

What animated movie almost makes Mikey angry?   And finally... Pootie Tang.
