Episode 147 -- Happy DeuceGiving!

Oh, but Peter Jackson did... he definitely did.
It's an annual tradition, when we at The Deucecast Movie Picture Show, give thanks for the things in the movies that we love, appreciation for theaters we enjoy, actors we cheer for and trends we follow... and by "annual tradition", we mean we did it a few years ago and wanted to do it again...

...so an annual tradition is born... again... we call it DeuceGiving!!

We are honored, first, as Shaz and Jedi Shua from The TechnoRetro Dads podcast calls in and enjoys an easy round of Simple Star Wars Trivia, a game that we hadn't played in quite a while, but Mikey was excited to get another crack at, while P!nky did it for the first time.  So, if nothing else, Shaz & Shua make this episode worth it!

Then, we tell the world what we are truly thankful for in the movie universe, everything from Marvel movies to Amy Adams (who d$ is in love with) to the finality of Hobbit movies... its a celebration of appreciation for theatrical awesomeness.

A new way to assign movies just for this Christmas time, as we draw out of a hat the titles of the 6 worst Christmas movies we could find on Netflix... find out who is forced to see Santa Claus vs The Martians and who will be forced to watch some randomness subtitled Danger in the Manger.   And that might be the cream of the crop...

Finally, a rousing discussion of Hollywood awards, and whether we feel that "message movies" with perhaps decent performances is more highly regarded than a "original film" with great performances... and be surprised by the trends over the last few years, especially in Best Actress.

Join us next week as well when we do our monthly ReFlicktions, covering everything from "Birdman" to "Interstellar" to "Big Hero 6" to the problem with Ice Cube in "Ride Along"--and find out what Pinky truly thought about his latest Pretty in Pink assignment...

Episode 146 -- The Mouse Will Be With You... Always

On a somewhat different note, we take you back to the show's appearance at The Alabama Phoenix Festival in May of 2014, where The Deucecast Movie Show co-host Dave is joined by local comic book show owner and Marvel of a man in his own right, Stan Daniel, as they spend and hour discussing Star Wars, Disney and the mash-up of the two.

Dave and Stan discuss various topics about what it means for the future of Star Wars since Disney has purchased the property... the possibility of a 5th theme park... Star Wars Weekends... dining with Darth Vader... the memories of the speederbike in Hollywood Studios... and so much more.

There are also questions to be fielded on everything from "Will Leia be a real Disney princess?" to "What does the merchandising look like?" and yes, we also dive into a Harry Potter comparison.

Plus, predictions for the future of the Disney/Star Wars partnership (since this episode was recorded six months ago, you'll hear a few misses... and several predictions that were dead on!)

Mikey and Pinky are there too, jumping in with their own conversations, questions and thoughts, and are joined by various Friend of the Show voices of Hurricane Rhett and our buddy Wookiee.

Sure, this episode isn't directly about movies, but it is a one hour geekfest on two things that the guys on the show love.

Coming next week... our annual DeuceGiving Episode, as we give you what we are thankful for in the movie world!   Download and listen to Ep 146 coming next week!

Episode 145 -- The Deucecast Intermission: The Godfather Part II

Mikey, P!nky and d$ jump back into The Godfather Saga by taking on what is arguably the better of the first two (and definitely better than the third... then again, d$ contends that Damon Wayan's Mo' Money is better than the third Godfather III)... and again, we are joined up by Classic Movie Historian and Terence Malick Apologist, the Honorable Doctor Earl.

...It's the Intermission Episode with the full discussion on the classic The Godfather Part II.  From 1974, the film centers on dueling story lines... first, the ascent of power of Michael Corleone, and his submerging into the darkness that is the mafia in the 1950s... next, we see the early days of the future "don", that being Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando in the first film).

An Academy Award winner for best picture, and starring Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, join the guys as they dissect the movie, talk about favorite scenes, the nuances and the movie as a whole... not from some snotty critics point of view, but from a FAN's point of view!

Also, join on us Episode 146, when d$ and local comic book shop owner and geek extraordinaire have a full discussion on the merging of Disney & Star Wars... sorta movies, sorta magic, all geek.  That's next week!

Episode 144 -- Deucecast Intermission: The Godfather Part I

From the powerful opening notes to it's powerful closing scene, The Godfather is one of the greatest films in cinematic history, or as Mikey puts it, "It's an Italian film made for Italians"

This Intermission episode takes on the Godfather saga, with Part I this week.... character by character, plot point by major plot point, Mikey, Pinky & d$ break down the film, and are joined by film buff and friend of the show Dr Earl to do so.

Hear our favorite scenes, maybe find your favorite scenes, discover and rediscover things you may not have known... trivia, symbolism and making of tidbits.

Vito, Clemenza, Michael, Sonny, Tom Hagen... all discussed at length, and we even talk about the deathly oranges... the horse head (real or fake?)... George Lucas' influence... who was on tap to play Vito besides Brando... the actual madness of Marlon Brando... why Pacino refused his Oscar nod... and our favorite characters and scenes.

Make sure to listen to The Deucecast Ep 145, next week, as the show takes on... Godfather II in our two part Intermission.
