Episode 604: The November 80s

The holiday season is here, and we are one week out from our annual DeuceGiving episode, which kicks off two months of annual eps - from Christmas gifts to Kaufman's yearly seasonal offerings to Top Tens of Not the Year to Lumps of Coal and much more.

But that's later.

Two years ago, we talked best November movies of the 2000s (episode 505). Last year, we took it back a decade and did the best of the 90s (episode 558), and this time around, the 1980s take center stage, as Mikey, d$, and special guest, "The Rocket Man" Uncle Brian, gives their fave films released in any year of the 80s, but only within the month of November.

First up, Uncle Brian reveals one of his hobbies -- the first time in 604 eps that Blinko has ever been discussed. Then, a miserable, total failure round of Box Office Mojo -- no seriously, the performance is awful and must be acknowledged as such.

Then, the Top Five 80s November films -- a little Trek... some Bugs... Charlie Sheen and a weird car... Chuck Norris rescues POWs... M'Lynn is wearing a brown football helmet... ending the Cold War... and a somewhat real discussion on the career and films of one Deucecast legend, Jim Varney, aka, "Ernest".

Episode 536: Deuce Got Game

It's the first episode of #FanBoySummer, featuring one of the show listeners not only joining the show, but picking the topic!

Today, Mikey, d$ (returning from his death bed), and #TwitterlessDrEarl welcome back Friend of the Show and Mr Independent himself, Jeremy Burgess.

First up, a gangsta' game of Rotten Tomatoes, honoring one we lost too soon -- Ray Liotta, and his best (and not so best) films. Then, Burgess' topic pick, figuring how we've done football and baseball centric themes, and so this time, it's all round ball.... Top Five Best Basketball movies.

And it makes for an even better time when two of the four have only seen a marginal amount of hoops films, one has seen mostly documentaries, and the fourth being the only true basketball cinematic expert.

The movies discussed, and where they are streaming at time of recording:

  • The Air Up There (Hulu)
  • Blue Chips (Prime, Paramount Plus, EPIX)
  • Celtic Pride (for rental)

Episode 515: The January ReFlicktions Part One

If you thought the beginning of the year meant a slow down in movies seen by The Deucecast Movie Show crew -- Mikey, d$, and Dr. Earl -- then you obviously don't know these guys very well.

The year starts with a bang with a heaping helping of film reviews, both new -- Spidey, West Side Story, Swan Song -- and old -- To the Wonder, Ernest -- and many, many more...

So many, in fact, that the show was chopped into two pieces... this week, you get a great discussion on the Golden Globes, with winners announced as we record, plus the sad state of the once proud, if not eccentric affair.

Then, reviews on almost 20 movies, with just as many coming next week.

Here's what you can expect this week, including where they are streaming at recording time.

  • Nightmare Alley (in theaters)
  • The Hand of God (Netflix)
  • Ernest Saves Christmas (Disney+)
  • Love Hard (Netflix)
  • Swan Song (AppleTV+)
  • Mother Android (Hulu)
  • Christmas With the Chosen: The Messengers (Peacock)
  • Closed for Storm (Amazon Prime)
  • Juice WRLD: Into the Abyss (HBO Max)
  • The Nowhere Inn (Hulu)
  • West Side Story (in theaters)
  • Belfast (in theaters)
  • The Kings Man (in theaters)
  • The Matrix Resurrections (in theaters / HBO Max)
  • Spiderman: No Way Home (in theaters)
  • To the Wonder (TubiTV)
  • Meet the Ricardos (Amazon Prime)

Episode 509: The Christmas Movie Role Tourney

It's that time... Christmas time is here... it's time for Christmas vacation!

Well, not quite... but almost! On the first day of December, Mike, d$, and #TwitterlessDrEarl kicks off the month of Festive Movie Cheer with the first of several Christmas episodes... and this one is a doozy, as the trio tries to determine the best Christmas movie role of all time.  And yes, this is part of the Big Bracket Canon, that being the winner advances to the 32 movie role Big Bracket, now tentatively planned for September 2023...

Expect the long shots -- the JTTs and the Refs and those with handcuffs for the holidays.  And the classics, including Santa, good and Bad, and Clause, and a Prime Minister and both Sally AND Harry. And of course, the favorites, the Buddys, the Ralphies, the Kevins, the Clarks of the season.

One by one, they are pitted against each other, with votes being cast to determine who moves on, who is out, and which Christmas movie character stands tall at the end.
