DCMS Classic: Ep 438 ReFlick ReVisit

An episode from the archives - a classic ep first aired on July 8, 2020

Another few weeks have gone by in summer months, and another pile of movies to get through. And the crew to do it are the Deucecast Movie Show hosts, Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl.

Amongst the many topics of discussion include the legacy of Delroy Lindo... the repetitive Delta Force theme... young Scott Baio movies... Burgess recommendations... #TwitterlessDrEarl experiences The Dude... Nick Swardson's affect on a movie... Mikey hates Pete Davidson... #TwitterlessDrEarl experiences a mid-sommar break... bad Disney movies... Dave loves him some Kevin James... and of course, much more. Plus the Top Five of the year so far!

The movies discussed and reviewed, in order (and streaming service, but only where they were available in 2020)

The Vast of Night (Prime)... Maze Runner: The Death Cure (FX Now)... Artemis Fowl (Disney+)... Just Mercy (Hoopla)... Zapped! (Prime)... Delta Force (streaming)... The Hate U Give (HBO Max)... Knife in the Water (HBO)... United We Fan (Prime)... Skyline (Prime)... Long Gone Summer (ESPN+)... Da 5 Bloods (Netflix)... The Big Lebowski (Fubo; DirecTV)... Metro (HBO Max)... Back in the Day (Prime)... Footloose (2012; Prime)... Everything Beautiful is Far Away (Prime)... 7500 (Prime)... Crawl (Prime; Hulu)... The King of Staten Island (DirecTV; streaming)... Midsommar (Prime)... Memory: Origins of Alien (Crackle)... Athlete A (Netflix)... Jasper Mall (streaming)... Atlantis: The Lost Empire (Disney+)... Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (Disney+)... Episode 689: The Top Ten of 1986

The big hair and the metal bands and the jams and the jelly shoes

and the movies were big and the stars were bigger... and our guest,

filmmaker Ken Horstmann's beard was even bigger.

The year was 1986, and the movies were rad. Dave and Mikey, and #XLessDrEarl, along with Ken, dive into the decade of excess, with some great chatter on movie trivia, Rodney Dangerfield, Stephen King novellas, Michael Keaton and Gedde Watanabe, some John Carpenter camp, whether Alien or Aliens was better, everyone slurping Ferris Bueller (though not d$, he's not fooled) and more.

Episode 673: The Criterion Crew

Dave and Mikey decide to give the reigns over this week to The Criterion Crew aka Garrison, Burgess, and Dr. Earl. So prepare for a pretentious extravaganza of film discussion.

Episode 662: The 2025 Movie Auction

It's that time of the year, when the annual Movie Auction takes place... and by "the annual", we mean the second one we've ever done!

In a concept borrowed from The Big Picture Podcast (all nods and love to Amanda Dobbins, Chris Ryan, and Sean Fennessey), Mikey and d$ are joined by Friends of the Show Garrison "Pride of Kennesaw" Ryfun and Roth from Wyoming to fill out their roster of films for 2025.

Everyone has a proverbial $1000 to work with, as various movies are put on the auction block and bid for - with the intentions of getting the movies that will make the most money domestically, as well as will get both Oscar love in early 2026.

The big ones are all hear -- Fantastic Four, Avatar, Wicked, and Superman included -- plus some surprises, like live action Stitch and Toothless, a Peruvian Paddington, more dinosaurs, and Glen Powell running.

A Rotten Tomatoes game determines the draft order, and will Roth go rogue again??

Episode 623: Non-Scary Ghosty Movies

With the release of the latest Ghostbusters movie, "Frozen Empire", we thought it was only fitting that we do something around the very heart of the sequel -- Ghosts!

But it's not Halloween so we decided to talk some Ghost Stories that aren't scary. Friendly ghosts, baseball playing ghosts, Christmas ghosts, Romantic Ghosts and so much more.

And what better way to discuss this topic than to bring in some experts... Brock Parker making his return to the podcast (since June 2021!) and bringing his lovely wife Jessica along, representing the Alabama ghostbusters!

Plus, what the Alabama Ghostbusters are doing now, how to join, and where to find them... and an honest, spoiler free review of "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire"

Episode 617: Oscars 10 to 5

While Mikey and d$ looked ahead to the movies to come for 2024 in last week's auction ep (thanks to Roth from Wyoming and Lil G, aka The Spawn of Ryfun, aka the Pride of Columbus, Garrizzle Ryfizzle for joining us), this week... we take a look at the past.

It's Hollywood Lore that the Best Picture nominee list went from 5 to anywhere from 7 to 10 after "The Dark Knight" was denied the honor in 2008's list (hence, 2009's list of 10 films!), but we wondered what would happen if they kept it at 5 films only...

Meaning, in some years, the list needed to be culled by a couple of films... in others, as many as 5 had to be cut. It's a great discussion on movies loved and not-so-loved, movies worthy and therefore argued over, and movies passed over quickly, lucky to have been mentioned at all.

List of Best Picture nominees each year from 2009 to current - first nominee listed was the Best Picture winner from the year, aside from 2024's list. Beginning in 2013, movies with an * denotes Deucie Winner for Best Picture in that year.
