Deucecast Classic: 2016's All Time Top Ten

It's a classic ep this week, as we combine TWO episodes -- Ep 214 and Ep 218, both from March 2016 -- with special guests Clay Shaver and Jeremy Burgess

Both episodes run through our (then) all time top 10 movies, as we were finishing up a series giving our top 100...

Here are the original show notes!

Finally... it's here!  Dave, Mikey & Pinky have entered the Top Ten in our year long series of our Top 100 favorite films... and because it's so monumental, the Deucecast Movie Show gang had to bring in two of their favorite dozen or so guests -- Local Birmingham filmmaker Jeremy Burgess and host of the Remodeling Clay podcast Clay Shaver -- to give senseless... er, senseful films.

But first, a rousing game of Chronology, with great categories like "The Mitten"... "Bale-Out"... "Mikey Likey"... and of course, the always loved "Potent Potables".

Starting with a reminder of how each of the participants came up with their own Top Ten.

Jeremy offers up a John Carpenter masterpiece, talks about his favorite horror films and the movie that "is underrated for being overrated" and possible "date rapey".

Pinky falls in love with Anna Kendrick and cancer, talks about a movie fetish and lists the best Rings film...

Clay discusses a Vietnam classic, his best Kevin Smith and a quintessential buddy cop film...

Dave has more Anna Kendrick meets airport stories, celebrates a sinking ship and an Elton John song...

and Mikey feels some heat, feels some Breakfast and has some romance. Some True Romance.

Also, Kate Hudson may or may not come on our show, ever...

Next, how lowly ranked should "Pulp Fiction" actually be?

And... coming soon, a new reality show called... "The Burgeler"?

AND THEN

It's been a year in the making, but here it is... five films from Mikey, from Dave, and from Pinky, along with special guests Remodeling Clay Shaver and local filmmaker Jeremy Burgess, who give their five of all time.

Jumping right in, with Mikey's #5, the discussions flow on where Diehard 2 stands in the original trilogy... two Gregory Peck films... the delight of "In Bruge"... a double dose of Andy Dufresne... Harrison Ford makes a big splash... when "Pulp Fiction" is too low... a film that millennials should discover... Dave's previous favorite film ever until this one... Thoughts on "Blade Runner 2"... Pinky's weird party going habits... the generation gap between Bale's & Keaton's Batman... how to get ripped off after being paid $4 billion... and who does Jeremy think is kidding when they talk about their favorite film?

Plus, tips on creating your own Top 100...

Episode 254: Family Gatherings

It's the holiday season, and whoop de doo, and hickory dock... Mikey, Dave, and Pinky are kicking off the Christmas month with Friend of the Show, the Delightful Lifer herself, Disney mogul and mom to (insert insane number here), Jennifer Kaufman!

First up, it's a Holly Jolly themed round of bDMI, aka, "Reverse IMDb"!  Reading the names of the actors listed in a Christmas film, as appearing on IMDb's movie pages, you get to name that film!

Then, onto family gatherings... and the interpretation of the topic is varied.  Some lists are "family dinner scenes", other lists are "movies where families come together" and still others are just "family scenes"...

Enjoy families celebrated in movies like The Wedding Crashers... The Descendants... Guess Who's Coming to Dinner... The Royal Tenenbaums... and even Beetlejuice and... Indiana Jones?

Plus, some Disney chatter... starting a Disney podcast and listening to any other podcasts... updates on building Kaufman's Top 100... how the movie watching goals are faring...

Episode 223: Deucecast Origins

(Show art co-art'ed by Remodeling Clay Shaver)

This episode is like a four fingered hand... the Pinky is missing.  Out doing something with his fake girlfriend on a fake date, filming a fake short film. Or something.
Tonight, it's Dave and Mikey on a very special episode.  If this were an 80's sitcom, a "Very Special Episode" would mean that Dave was dealing with an eating disorder or Mikey was playing inside of a fridge and got locked in... but for The Deucecast Movie Show, it's the short-awaited "origins episode."

Where did the name "Deucecast" come from?  How did Mikey and Dave meet each other?  Where does Pinky come in?  Who is Tommy?  Is Shawn real?

Dave and Mikey pull back the curtain to talk about what happened to lead to the most popular movie podcast with the name "Deucecast" in the title.

Plus, a Q&A session, answering inquires from Facebook and email and Twitter, like the hosts' first theatrical films, thoughts on the new release boxes at home, forgotten TV shows into films and more.
Also, listing some fans' own lists of their Top 10 films of all time.  And finally, an in-depth look at a Top 100 list and how to put it together.

And of course, a name drop of the band Tantric. Because of course Tantric.

Make sure you visit our friends of the show's websites, like Craig Harmann, the worship leader...

It's been a year in the making, but here it is... five films from Mikey, from Dave, and from Pinky, along with special guests Remodeling Clay Shaver and local filmmaker Jeremy Burgess, who give their five of all time.

Pinky's weird party going habits... the generation gap between Bale's & Keaton's Batman... how to get ripped off after being paid $4 billion... and who does Jeremy think is kidding when they talk about their favorite film?

Episode 214: All Time Top Ten Favorite Films Part 1

Note: The audio on this one is flaky with the call-in guest.  Just suffer through it! It's worth it!!

Finally...

Episode 210: The 2016 Movie Preview (and Top 100 Review)

Two big segments on the show this week!  Mikey, Pinky & Dave have a host-filled episode with no one else in studio but Producer Tommy holding down the keyboard, monitor and brass section.  And of course, Producer Shawn, always on the Annex Couch, first to arrive and last to leave.  Thank you, Producer Shawn, for your hard work and dedication to the cause of Deucentertainment.

A little "Stay Seated // Walk Out" discussion brings us answers to the questions of "Will Quentin Tarantino actually retire after his 10th film?" and "Have we had enough of Brad & Jen?" and "Should JJ Abrams be bought for reviving a huge Marvel franchise?"

And what franchise could JJ take over that would save it from the depths of suck?

The summer movie preview takes a gander at upcoming big films and Mike, Pinky & Dave's takes on them...

Chats commence about Benedict Cumberbatch in "Dr. Strange"... "Neighbors 2" with Seth Rogen & Zac Efron... the obligation to see "Batman v  Superman: Dawn of Justice"... love for Emily Blunt in "Girl on the Train"... some Clooney film called "Money Monster"... prospects for the chick "Ghostbusters"... how Pinky HATES "Ghostbusters"... Tom Hanks latest Oscar grab... the most tongue-in-cheek Marvel film to date... Jennifer Lawrence and Hugh Jackman begin wrapping up their time in the X-Universe... the latest Da Vinci Code movie... Emma Stone & Ryan Gosling re-team... Pixar's "Finding Nemo"... Matt McConaughy in a Civil War drama... excitement for "Suicide Squad"... the mixed opinions on the new "Star Trek" films... Jeff Goldblum in "ID Resurgence"... hopes for Billy Zane in "Zoolander Eye Eye"... Disney's "Moana" & "Zootopia" and the Disney-like "Secret Life of Pets"...

Also, featuring a lengthy conversation on returning to the world of Harry Potter in "Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them".  Is JK Rowling doing too much?  What are the prospects for success?  Will it succeed or fail?

More thoughts on "Captain America Civil War", asking the heartbreaking question "...Captain America is fighting Iron Man?" and how massive this will be.

"Rogue One" and the label of "A Star Wars Story"... will it help?  And is Biggs Darklighter making a real appearance?

Then, the show shifts to a quick overview of the Top 100 so far... what movies will need to go in upon further review?  "Nightcrawler"?  "Thank You For Smoking"?  "Leap Year" with Amy Adams?
What movies might fall out of the lists?  Movies that are more about nostalgia like "Monty Python & the Holy Grail" or movies that are good for one viewing like "The Godfather" or movies that can just be bumped, like "Dogma".

And then movies that are too recent to count, but could easily find their way into the Top 100 lists, movies like "Mad Max Fury Road", or movies that need to move up the lists, like "Fargo".

Finally... Pinky gives the films that he thinks will make it into his new Top 100 list.  Its about 100 films long.  Stay tuned.

Episode 206: All Time Top 100... 20 through 11

It's getting ever closer, that being the All Time Top 100 favorite movies of Mikey, Pinky & d$... but first, the ten movies that lead up to it.

James Cameron gets some love with a waterlogged sci-fi film... Spielberg gets love with two films on two lists... Indiana Jones makes an appearance... Mikey has to defend really crappy movies like Dune... a great romantic comedy with a Bill Withers tune... the difference in Diehard and Diehard 2... the great music from a Daniel Day-Lewis classic... Tarantino meets Uma... Mikey gives you a few movies you can't refuse...

And the guys spend not only ten minutes on a Bryan Adams 90s tune, but also a huge Celine Dion hit from the late 90s.

Plus... hear Mikey use the phrase "F me, he cleared it!" and Pinky say, "It's a great love story! And at the end, you get to see a boat sink!"

The numbers get smaller and the movies get bigger!

Episode 201: Top 100... 30 to 21

It's another All Time Top 100 Episode, this time taking our 30th favorite all time films (like Harrison Ford's "Witness") and counting down to each of our 21st favorite films.

We also attempt to answer questions like "Why does 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' get brought up so much?" and "Where did that LEGO Clock come from?" and "Is this the age of the Joey Fatonassaince?" and "Where did Fisher, the former housecat of the Deuce, really get his name?"... and, of course, "What's in the booooooox????"

You'll also get the story of how Johnny Depp was able to create the Capt. Jack Sparrow we all know and love against the wishes of Disney brass.  We share some Bruce Springsteen from what Pinky & Mikey call a straight up "This is a d$ movie".  You'll also find out what movie makes Producer Tommy nod his head in full approval.

Also, hear some great music snippets from favorites like "Jerry Maguire" and "Inside Man"... and finally... the first movie that two of us have ranked exactly the same...

Episode 198: All-Time Fav Top 100... 40 thru 31

As Casey Kasem would say, "The numbers get smaller, the hits get bigger"... while he would go on to introduce the latest tune from Nu Shooz or the recent top ten hit from Whitney Houston, we instead will continue our countdown to our all time favorite films.

In this latest group of ten (or 30, as ten each from Mikey, d$ & Pinky), you'll hear quick discussions on... one of the greatest WWII movies ever made... a recent Joseph Gordon-Levitt instant classic... one of the coolest films d$ has ever seen... one of the coolest films anyone has ever seen... Jack Black's magnum opus... Harrison Ford being Amish... Harrison Ford being framed... Harrison Ford going crazy... Harrison Ford being crusadey... the multiple endings and expansive casts of Middle Earth... a musical number from d$'s love Amy Adams... Audrey Hepburn finding love with Humphrey Bogart... opinions on an all female cast of a classic...

Plus, this is the night Mikey forgets everything...

And, if you ever wanted to know who that guy is who played the main terrorist not named Hans Gruber in DieHard, you'll find that answer here.

Episode 194: Top 100... 50 thru 41

Cyrano de Bergerac via Steve Martin... more Harrison Ford appearances... 1980s Kerri Green... the joys of being spoiler free before the internet... what happened to Aaron Eckhart... the Break Up Rom Com section of Pinky's list... Episode 191: Top 100... 60 to 51

Another entry into the Top 100 Series, as we reach the 1/2 way point into our year long countdown of the  top 100 films of all time.

Not the "best films", obviously, as you likely wouldn't see "While You Were Sleeping" on any "Greatest Films Ever" list... but its on d$'s list.  So is a great DeNiro/Grodin 80s classic, a Stephen King novella turned movie and why in the world is there a clip featuring Sally Field and Olympia Dukakis?  Get ready for the Magnolias.

Pinky reels out his a favorite Chris Nolan movie, an Emma Stone modern classic and takes the show to Monstropolis.

Mikey discusses one of his favorite Kevin Smith films, a John Cusack movie right on point, and his affinity for Bruce Campbell.   All in all, 30 films discussed, and the countdown rolls on!

Episode 186: Top 100... 70 thru 61

"What do you mean I get several mentions on this week's episode?!"
From the mind of M Night Shyamalan...

"It's a piece of crap... but I really liked it!" says Pinky about this sequel to one of his favorite films of all time... which movie?  Find out by listening to the latest Top 100 episode, with Mikey, Pinky & d$ giving their all time favorites -- not the Best Films Ever but Favorites -- including the coolest truck of the 80s... Mikey's inability to count properly (thus a throwback to the last Top 100 episode)...

Also, the improbably deus ex machina ending of Field of Dreams... having a school boy crush on Hayley Mills... a film that Pinky loves as much as Mikey hates... the talent of Charles Groden... how to see Bugs Bunny & Mickey Mouse in the same frame... d$'s special attachment to Con Air... why Pinky is ruining the country... the three movies d$ saw first...

Discussion on movies like Toy Story... Mary Poppins... Heat... Jurassic Park... and much more.

Plus... is Adam Sandler the new M Night Shyamalan?

Oh, and Corey Haim.

Episode 181: The Top 100... 90 thru 81

The countdown continues, as d$, Mikey and Pinky name off their next set of ten films in a list that is their 100 Favorite Films of All Time.

Many modern day classics are brought up, like the film that brought us Sandy Bullock and the one where Dwight Yoakam plays a really bad bad guy... a few recent films make the lists, including one where Paul Rudd says "Man o Lantern" and James Bond's latest adventure... some 80s films are on the list, like one that d$ considers one of the finest movies of the 80s and another with extra footage added recently... and of course, some older classics, like d$'s obsession with The Trolley Song.

Plus... the film that made Mikey love whipped cream, the movie that Pinky says his is favorite football movie and the guys give you two movies outside the list--a modern day western and a young Bill Pullman...

Plus... the first crossover movie, one featured on two lists at nearly the same number.

Episode 173: The All Time Top 100... #100 to 91

Really kicking off our year long series, d$, Pinky & Mikey begin the discussion of their favorite ALL TIME Movies.  The Deucecast Movie Show guys aim to count down 100 of them, ten at a time, starting here with #100.

Movies with baseball... time traveling cars... Catholicism... water parks... Legolas on a shield... Nic Cage doing funny hand moves... simple plans gone awry... and, Barton Fink.  Naturally.

You'll also find out answers to questions like, what iconic role was Sandra Bullock rejected for?  In what movie does d$ enjoy Angelina Jolie because she's not all Brad Pitty?  What Christmas movie does Mikey love and Pinky hate?  And vice versa?  And who decides to finally own the fact that "I love Erin Brockovich.  There, I said it."

These and more are discussed in this latest episode, giving you 30 films that you should see, if only because we love them so much.

And next week... the Annual Deucecast Movie Show Summer Preview!

Episode 162: The All Time Top 100 Prologue

Do you have a list of favorite films?  Have you ever written down your top films?  Your top 5?  Top 10?  Maybe top 25?  What about your Top 100 of All Time?

The Deucecast Movie Show hosts--Pinky, Mikey & d$--are doing just that.  After Pinky & Mikey spent a few months... and d$ spent a few years (no, seriously)... listing our favorite films of all time, a new series is beginning.  Every time the show tackles the Top 100, another ten will be released until the Top 10 favorite films of all time are known.

But first... the Prologue.  The 30 films--10 each--that just missed the cut by an ever so close margin... looking at what was almost in the Top 100, what barely, narrowly were edged out of that magical 100 mark.

A Terminator movie just missed the cut... a big rig Patrick Swayze film didn't quite make it... Cary Grant running from a crop duster almost made it, but not quite... one big and one little monster and a cute little girl named Boo also just missed the 100... how did Thank You For Smoking make this list?  And who in the world couldn't put Die Hard on their list?!  Find out in this episode, as we give you the All Time Top 100 films that rank 101-110...

And next week, join us for a special Intermission when we are joined by Shotglass Digital's own Jimmy Mac as we give a full discussion of the all-time classic, Rocky V!
