Episode 647: Our All Time 10 Ten Favorite Films

It's the unofficial end to the summer series, dropping a day or two before summer actually ends -- but we waited until #XLessDrEarl was back in studio!  And here he is, joining d$ and Mikey as they count down their all time 10 favorite films ever (and give 11 thru 20 later on in the show)

Mikey and d$ have a recap of the All Time Top 10 given in Eps 214 and 218 (back in March of 2016), but for #XLessDrEarl, its a brand new list that none of us had ever heard.

And after a lengthy discussion on the films of Ernest, we dive in to the all time top ten... of course there is some crossover, and a little movement from previous lists to now -- and only a smattering of pretention.  You'll hear about Harry Ford and Michael Mann. Some Tom Hanks and Audrey Hepburn.  Morgan Freeman and Play It Again Sam... films from 1942 all the way up to 2010.

It was a great list to discuss and we'd love to know YOUR faves too.

Episode 518: The Not 2021 Top Ten

As the review portion of 2021 continues, it's time to take a look at favorite films seen last year... but not FROM last year... nay, from years before!

And unlike previous NOT Top Tens, this one spans the generations of movies... including Dr. Earl's total pretentiousness... Episode 505: A Century of November Films

Once a year, the Halloween season ends and the Christmas season revs up, leaving that cold, boring month of November right in the middle. The Deucecast Movie Show refuses to let November go, so Mikey, d$, and #TwitterlessDrEarl takes a look at the month from last year back to 2000.

First, the November birthday movies, finding out how long ago Doctor Strange and Domestic Disturbance were released, and exactly how long ago did Time Bandits show up?

Then the guys look ahead in November, with releases coming, releases like the new claymation Robin Robin... Clifford the Big Red Dog... King Richard... and of course, Ghostbusters Afterlife

Then, a look at our favorite movies released to theaters in November -- Honest Abe and Dave's girl Amy and Pixar classics and Disney animated classics and much more!

Deucecast Classic: Sci Fi with TechnoRetro Dads

It's a busy spring break week for everyone as Mikey is busy eating and #TwitterlessDrEarl is in Long Island testifying at a lint removal procedure gone wrong trial and Dave is out of the state, so rather than trying to get a rushed show together, they guys are taking the week off.

This week, the show pays homage to our good friends over at TechnoRetro Dads, who's own show is ending. This Deucecast Classic is from May 2018, episode 327.  Enjoy the old school vibe, and here are the original show notes from that episode:

It's a couple of guys who keep their heads in the clouds and gaze at the stars, so it's only fitting that Dave and Mikey discuss Fantasy and Science Fiction films. But since #Twitterless Dr Earl can't be found (he's doing a lint removal procedure from the naval of poor kids in Long Island), who better to invite onto the show than the TechnoRetro Dads  themselves, Shazbazzar and Jedi Shuuuuuuuuaaaaahhhhhh....

And the gang jumps right in, counting off their lists of what they consider to be their favorite fantasy/sci-fi films of this century... that's really anything released on January 1st, 2000, until... well, you know, today. Or the day of the recording, anyway.

The TRD's also give their take on "Ready Player One" before diving into the Top Ten, then the guys discuss at length -- and at depth -- the legacy and their adoration of films like "Children of Men" and the newest "Star Trek" and newer "Star Wars" films and Shaz defends "John Carter" while Dave defends "Lady in the Water".

Its a great two hours of sci fi fantasy fun and movie love!

And they celebrate bad movies too.  And after giving the Best of the Worst of the 2010s (with Lil G Ryfun), and Best of the Worst of the 2000s (With Kaufman & Upon a Star Jenn), and Best of the Worst of the 90s, it's time to go all the way back to the age of Disco and look at the greatest, favoritist flops of the 1970s.

First up, Dave, Mikey, and #TwitterlessDrEarl invite in the legend, the famous, the infamous, award winning Voice of Cobb County, Scotty Ryfun!  They play a spirited round of Denzel, then turn their attention to the Top Five at Hand.

The Best movies of the Worst movies of the 1970s, all movies coming in at 49% or under on the Rotten Tomatoes TomatoMeter... plus some deep discussions on George Lucas' involvement in bad sequels... who really ran USA UP All Night... Episode 435: Can't Stop Watching

The Deucecast Movie Show loves its classic films and masterpiece films and favorite films... but there are also those particular movies that no matter how good or bad they are, the channel isn't getting turned at all once its on.  And Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl have just such a Top Five.

Mac's collectible Studio
First up, the co-host of the Sandcrawler Podcast, Michael "Shine Sweet Freedom" "Keep Forgettin" "Takin' It to the Streets" MacDonald, aka Mac, joins the show for a great discussion about Star Wars Collectibles -- how to price, how to seek, the "white whale" of the collectors arena -- and then presenting his latest find (it's a dandy).  Mac is making his first appearance in two years, having joined the show in Ep 333, "Canadian Bacon"

Then a new game where the words in the titles add up (and where Dave fails miserably), then a top five on movies that we just can't stop watching when they are on.  When you flip channels, see the movie, and you go there... and no matter where you are at what point in the movie, you keep it there to watch part if not the rest of the film. Shying away from the ones frequently discussed -- "Tickled", "Weiner", "Dear Zachary", etc -- other documentaries surface and resurface, with subjects like Gilbert Gottfried and Nic Cage as Superman and Tower Records and The Beatles and Steven Spielberg and chickens and chicken fingers and racism and volcanoes, Werner Herzog style.

A round of Denzel starts the show off, and then, all talk about the movies that the guys ought to have watched by now.

Classic movies!  Recent movies!  Old school and new school!

Plus, what ARE the Blues Brothers running from?  What is Edward Norton's best role? Does Mikey hate Robert Redford?  Did FF Coppola get stupid after Godfather movies? What is so uncomfortable about "Deliverance"?  And how much blame does Scott Ryfun take for his son not seeing the classics?

Then... the battle of the Padawans... who has seen more films between Pinky & Garrison?

Finally, America's favorite movie segment involving OMD music and Molly Ringwald... Pinky discusses the 80s cult classic "Willow".

Episode 245: The Greatest Movie Year Tourney Part III

Mikey, Dave and Pinky come together once again to talk about movie years.  Great movie years.  In fact, the greatest movie year ever, in the greatest movie year ever tournament.  But this much awesome cannot be held only by the three hosts, so joining the group is frequent contributor and friend of the show Remodeling Clay Shaver.

This time, we see movies like Weird Science, Top Gun, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Aliens go head to head when 1986 takes on 1985.

A controversial decision and disagreement comes in with 1975 runs up against 2005.

A first round blowout in the match of 1975 vs 2005

A close battle with 2010 and 2012.

Titanic from 1997 sails in to try and sink 2001.

And a pattern seems to emerge with the power of the 2000s, with 1984 going straight after the year 2000.

Episode 241: The Mt Rushmore of Directors

After the actors and actresses that have been placed on each personal Mt Rushmore as All Time Favorites (see Episode 219 for Actors and Episode 227 for Actresses), its only fitting that Directors get their due.  And of course, what better way to do it than to bring in Terrance Malick Apologist and Film Historian the Honorable Former Deacon Dr Earl.

Up first, a fast paced edition of Denzel, with someone forgetting the names of the Hobbit movies, someone else forgetting the arthouse award winning film Alicia Vikander was in, and what exactly was the name of the guy who played Freddy Kruger??

Then over to picking the all time best directors ever, based on love of movies, love of directing style, based on the films in the host's favorite movies and Top 100 films of all time...  you'll hear various stories of why certain films are liked and disliked, and who barely made the cut.

Names like Spielberg!  Russell!  Tarantino! Altman! Whit Stillman... wait, who?  And where does Dr Earl place Malick upon Rushmore... or does he place him at all....??

Plus, a close look at the career of director Andy Tennant, director of "It Takes Two" with Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen.

Episode 217: Ryfun, Amblin fun & Spring Movie Fun

It's an epic episode of awesomeness with Dave, Mikey and Pinky as they take on the films made under the banner of Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment.  To take on such a task, not only is friend of the show, Terrence Malick Apologist and Movie Historian, the esteemable Dr. Earl brought in, but radio host and host of My Star Wars Story and Dinner For Geeks podcasts Scott Ryfun.

After the intros, a stirring game of Denzel brings forth the films of Rob Schneider, who played the love interest chick in I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and "the guy, I'm seeing the guy in Herbie Fully Loaded"... plus, the most Edward Woodward Talk you've ever heard on The Deucecast Movie Show!

Plus, could a podcast called "My Steel Magnolias Story" work?  Maybe?  Maybe not?

The Spring Movie Preview takes shape, giving the rundown on how DC's television rocks and movies suck, while Marvel's TV is okay and their movies rock... prospects of the new "Insurgent Detergent Redundant" film... Hiddleston's Hank Williams movie... the major fault in the third installment of "The Ring" series... Don Cheadle's bid for the Oscar... the film that Dave considers a loose reboot of "Troop Beverly Hills"... a first person shooter movie... the lack of buzz for the live action "Jungle Book"...

From the director of "New Year's Day" and "Valentine's Day", the next in the series of random holiday flicks...

And... what flick seems like a ripoff of the Dabney Coleman classic "Short Time"?

And then, the gang dives into their favorite Amblin Films (you can see the list of Amblin movies here).  Among the discussion points:  That time that Disney & Warner Brothers worked together... more shocking revelations of films that Pinky hasn't seen... Mikey's irrational fear of Peter Coyote... John Goodman as an exterminator... the peak of Harley Jane Kozak... the controversy of Poltergeist and Amblin... The History Channel version of Steven Spielberg... the dim prospects of Christian Bale... Scott Ryfun's hate/love for Spielberg... Audrey's final movie... and lots of Saving Private Ryan talk.

Pretty in Pink takes on the movie "Heathers"... and guest Scott Ryfun chooses the next Pretty in Pink film!

Episode 206: All Time Top 100... 20 through 11

It's getting ever closer, that being the All Time Top 100 favorite movies of Mikey, Pinky & d$... but first, the ten movies that lead up to it.

James Cameron gets some love with a waterlogged sci-fi film... Spielberg gets love with two films on two lists... Indiana Jones makes an appearance... Mikey has to defend really crappy movies like Dune... a great romantic comedy with a Bill Withers tune... the difference in Diehard and Diehard 2... the great music from a Daniel Day-Lewis classic... Tarantino meets Uma... Mikey gives you a few movies you can't refuse...

And the guys spend not only ten minutes on a Bryan Adams 90s tune, but also a huge Celine Dion hit from the late 90s.

Plus... hear Mikey use the phrase "F me, he cleared it!" and Pinky say, "It's a great love story! And at the end, you get to see a boat sink!"

The numbers get smaller and the movies get bigger!
