Deucecast Classic: Sci Fi with TechnoRetro Dads

It's a busy spring break week for everyone as Mikey is busy eating and #TwitterlessDrEarl is in Long Island testifying at a lint removal procedure gone wrong trial and Dave is out of the state, so rather than trying to get a rushed show together, they guys are taking the week off.

This week, the show pays homage to our good friends over at TechnoRetro Dads, who's own show is ending. This Deucecast Classic is from May 2018, episode 327.  Enjoy the old school vibe, and here are the original show notes from that episode:

It's a couple of guys who keep their heads in the clouds and gaze at the stars, so it's only fitting that Dave and Mikey discuss Fantasy and Science Fiction films. But since #Twitterless Dr Earl can't be found (he's doing a lint removal procedure from the naval of poor kids in Long Island), who better to invite onto the show than the TechnoRetro Dads  themselves, Shazbazzar and Jedi Shuuuuuuuuaaaaahhhhhh....

And the gang jumps right in, counting off their lists of what they consider to be their favorite fantasy/sci-fi films of this century... that's really anything released on January 1st, 2000, until... well, you know, today. Or the day of the recording, anyway.

The TRD's also give their take on "Ready Player One" before diving into the Top Ten, then the guys discuss at length -- and at depth -- the legacy and their adoration of films like "Children of Men" and the newest "Star Trek" and newer "Star Wars" films and Shaz defends "John Carter" while Dave defends "Lady in the Water".

Its a great two hours of sci fi fantasy fun and movie love!

Episode 428: Best of the Worst 2000s

In these uncertain times, it's important to embrace what you truly love -- bad movies. And leave it to Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl to bring you the best. The Best of the Worst.
After doing the Best of the Worst films of the 2010s with Lil G Ryfun (Ep 377) and 1990s (Ep 389), it was time to do Best of the Worst films, as dictated by a Rotten Tomatoes score of 50% or less... and to get the perspective of the fairer kind, the Jennifers make a return... Jennifer Kaufman and Jennifer Novotny both join the show!

First up, to celebrate the release weekend anniversary of Avengers Infinity War and Endgame, an MCU themed version of IMDb, naming the movie roles of those in the MCU...

Then the trash that we love, movies that rank low on RT but high in our hearts, from Orlando Jones getting shoved up an alien's bum to Britney Spears hitting a cross road to a Star Wars mission road trip to #TwitterlessDrEarl surprising everyone with his Scooby Doo love.

Plus, what happened to Julia Robert's best role in the Julie Bracket... Doctor Aphra... love for Favreau... Va-poo-rizers... M Night's folly... Dim Sum... Richard Pryor's bad Toys... Robin Williams bad Toys... the J-Lo Triumverate..

Movies discussed, and where to find them streaming (at the time of recording)

  • August Rush (for rental)

Episode 364: The Best Best Picture Winners

Oscar nominations are out!  Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl spend an hour full of Oscar talk... and the fun thing is that when the recording of this episode happens, nominations aren't out yet.

So the guys get to make bold predictions on Oscar noms that have already happened now.  Who swings and misses wildly?  Who calls an Animated nom?  And who was the genius who called the Bradley Cooper snub and only 7 nominations for Star is Born??

Dr Earl also pontificates on a recent viewing of M. Night's sophomore effort "Unbreakable" (of which the recent "Glass" is a sequel to), a re-watch after about 12 or 15 years.

Then the Denzel game makes a stirring comeback, with shout outs to Mila Kunis, James Franco, and Mikey's Boo K-Cost, and who could forget Chuckles the Ape...

The top five this go-round takes a look at all the Academy Award Best Picture winners, including a look at the Godfather, the life-ness of Talia Shire, and what is the Good Dinosaur of Mobster movies... a rundown of the other movies that didn't win in the same year of the movies selected... some hot Sidney Poitier talk... the importance of Titanic in Dave's life...

Episode 356: Winter Movie Preview 2018

Thanksgiving is now over and the Holiday season is in full swing!  So Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl run through the best of what's coming up with a winter movie preview.

But first, since the regular run-down of the latest seen movies isn't until later in the month, the guys give their quick thoughts on recent releases, including Widows, Nutcracker & the Four Realms, Fantastic Beasts 2 (including a Harry Potter lore discussion), Creed II and more.

And then a look at what's coming this winter... movies like a PG-13 rated Deadpool... Eastwood running drugs... more Transformers... J-Lo gets another movie that sounds like the secret of her success... Steve Carell in a narrative based on one of Mikey's favorite docs... a highly anticipated political comedy... M Night Shamalamala expands his universe... a remake of a Huey Lewis song movie... Liam Neeson drives a snowplow... and Blake Lively says the rhythm is gonna get ya.

Episode 313: The Not 2017 Top Ten

Take another amazing excursion into movie podcasting excellence... and when you are done with that ride, then come on and listen to this episode of The Deucecast Movie Show!

Mikey and Dave hold down the fort, with all Friends of the Show doing other things, as they bring the best films they watched in 2017 that weren't actually from 2017.

First up, a little See This, Not That, where the guys tell you what Kevin Costner films to see and which ones to avoid... which Time Travel movies to catch and which to skip... what M Night Shymalala flicks you need to make time for and which ones you never have to watch... and what Matt Damon cinematic experiences to experience and what Matt Damon cinematic experiences you can forego experiencing.

Then Friend of the Show Jeremy Burgess calls into the show randomly, as the show introduces the replacement for the annual Valentine's Pink... The Deucecast Movie Show presents Burgentine's Day, assigning him some romantic films... plus the first appearance of The Girl's Next Door's "Slow Boat to China"  (from 1986, not 1988, by the way)... including the film known as "The Australian Dirty Dancing"

And then, the top ten films that were seen last year by Dave and Mikey, but not films that were actually from 2017.  Some older movies like Arthur and Blade Runner and High Noon and newer films like Magnificent Seven and Captain Fantastic and Gone Baby Gone and much more.

Episode 257: 2016's Christmas Gifts to the Stars

Another year is winding down, and the generosity of Mikey, Pinky, Dave and guest Remodling Clay Shaver knows no ending.

It's the annual episode where the hosts of the show (and guests) give out Christmas gifts to the celebrities and movie stars who need a little Christmas cheer.

First up, Remodeling Clay, who's words will discount or qualify the validity of a song when it comes to the "Christmas" label, gives his take on a classic by The Eagles.

The presents flow readily... gifts for Amy Adams... Bradley Cooper... Brendan Fraser... Kevin Hart... the cast of Ice Age... Marvel... John Cena... M Night Shymalan... even Vanessa Hudgens... and someone gives a gift to themselves, involving Dermot Mulrooney.  Wait, Dylan McDermont. Wait, Dermot McDermot. Um... Dylan Muldermot?  Well, crap. You know that guy.

And does James Cameron need an epiphany? Should Crackle have the ability to make Oscar nominated films?  Can there be a "no fly" list for reboots?  Find out in this ep (spoiler: The answer is Yes to all three)

Thanks for a great year, thanks for listening, subscribing and being a Deucecast Movie Show Fan!!

Also joining the guys in studio is Terrence Malick Apologist and Film Historian Dr Earl, and friend of the show and Boyhood Apologist Jeremy Burgess, who also gives the rundown on the annual Sidewalk Moving Picture Show Film Festival of Films and Movies and Cinematic Experiences That you Only Can Get from Flicker Shows.  (that title may not be exact)

But first... a BRAND NEW GAME!!!  It's called CHRONOLOGY... you have to listen to find out what it is, but just know it does have great categories like "Oops I Crapped My Pants", "The Revenge of Seth" and "Potent Potables"

The Sidewalk Preview touches on some great up and coming films like "Raiders" and "Western", of which Jeremy gives reviews on, plus a quick overview of Jeremy's short film "Dead Saturday" with Oscar nominee Eric Roberts.

Then, the Fall Movie Preview kicks in, taking you from September thru November.  Discussions on the Anne Hathaway/Robert DeNiro comedy "The Intern", plus Pinky wishing for "Gangster DeNiro" to return... "Everest" with Josh Brolin, Keira Knightley and Eric Bana, and how its IMAX Candy... "The Walk" with JoGo Levitt, and his high wire act... Sandy Bullock in "Our Brand in Crisis" and the space epic "The Martian"... Pixar's latest, Julianne Moore's new movie, and even some Oscar bait.

Plus... M Night Shymalan's new film, "The Visit".  And whether it looks like it might be decent or another dumpster fire.  The theory that "a lot of people die" in The Hunger Games Park

And Jeremy's obsession with "Jem & the Holograms" is passed over quickly.  Okay, not really an obsession.  Maybe just a jab.

Oh, and why is Daniel Radcliffe this generation's Mark Hamill?
