Episode 598: Recasting the Avengers

As the summer comes to a close, so does 2023 edition, and the final edition of #FanBoySummer this year (and possibly for a while), Dave, Mikey, and #XLessDrEarl welcome back one of the show faves -- Straight Outta Iowa, it's Aussie Nate!

First, a quick catch-up on Nate, then a rousing round of Denzel... where #XLessDrEarl goes straight for the jugular in his ruthless ambition to win.

Then, Aussie Nate instructs the group on the topic for the day. Something something about recasting the main Avengers - Tony Stark, Cap, Nat, Hawkeye, Thor, and Hulk - and doing it per decade but keeping one of the originals that doesn't count for the 2000s but then in order so like the 90s first then the 80s then back to the 2000s and whatever.

As you'll hear, Mikey screwed up all the instructions. Either way, it makes for a delightful conversation, one that ends with quick chatter on the Star Wars Holiday Special screening from the weekend, mad props to Friend of the Show Burgeydoodle for his big win, and much more random conversation.

Episode 596: SNL Actors

The August moon is nigh, the summer is waning, the dog days are here... and what better way to beat the heat than to listen to a great podcast!  So make sure to subscribe to Roth From Wyoming's Good Day 4 a Movie Podcast!

After that, you can tune into this little ditty, as The Deucecast Movie Show's own Mikey and d$, sans #TwitterlessDrEarl this time, invite in first time guest (and first time podcaster!) Coach DiBello all the way down from Miami, Florida!

Tonight is all about some Saturday Night Live, and the actors who started and shined as Not Ready For Primetime Players.

First up, a chit-chat on who Coach is, and how he found the show itself... CTI must return!

Then, an SNL Draft... who would be in a dream cast! Make sure to listen and comment on Twitter, or X, or TheDeuceCord about who's lineup is the absolute best!

Finally, top five SNL performers... of course, Mikey told d$ it was who got their start... for Mikey and Coach, it's who shined the most.  So the lists are varied, but the names are huge - Murphy... Aykroyd... Murray... Radner... Sandler... Zweibel?  Him too.

Also... a lot of hot Hurricane Rhett talk, so Rhett fans, tune in.

Episode 595: Our 1988 Favorites

It's always an honor and a pleasure to welcome back one of our absolute favorites and a spot of true class on our little show... and since Jenn Novotny was not available, we called upon our beloved Jennifer Kaufman as this week's #FanboySummer winner loser participant! (we kid, we kid... we love Kaufman)

First up, lots of birthday movies from the previous 5, 10, 20 and so on years -- including the original The Meg's 5th birthday, 2 Guns 10th birthday, The Fugitive's 30th birthday, and more.

Then, a round of Reel or Unreal, as the crew tries to guess the names of really bad films few people have heard of.

Finally, a great look at the year in film 1988.  Kaufman gives her reasons for picking this topic, and everyone gives their favorite films from that year including vintage Eddie Murphy... all the actors who were up for the legendary role Bob Hoskins got... the sad  tale of "Yep Yep Yep"... a shout out to Garrison's fave film... Seagal, Ernest, and Chevy all get love from Mikey... and Dr Earl gets pretentious, of course.

Episode 592: The Actor 1-2-3 Punch

Like sand through the hourglass, this is the Deuce of our Lives... because summer is whizzing by faster than you can name 14 straight Tom Hanks banger movies. #FanboySummer2023 rolls on as the latest loser winner guest joins the show -- returning Friend of the Show, Roth from Wyoming!

Lots to get to on this show, including catching up with Roth and his latest ventures... then some birthday movies, including the incredible news that Seabiscuit is 20 years old!

A brand new game -- Everything Everywhere All At Once Upon a Time in Hollywood -- makes its debut on the show, as the crew pairs up movie titles for points.

Finally, Mikey, d$, #TwitterlessDrEarl, and Roth give their favorite 1-2-3 Punch for actors... that is, which actors had the best back to back to back hit films, from double doses of Harry Ford to tripling up on our fave Katie Holmes ex... which leads to Mikey's own theme for the episode, in memory of Garrison Ryfun, of course.

Stick around throughout the episode to hear about Roth's charitable work with RISE Foundation of Wyoming and how you can help!

(Way too many movies to list their streaming sources - you can do your work this week)

Episode 589: Conceptual Sci-Fi

Once again, #FanboySummer moves by quickly, as this week, another

loser winner contributor joins the show, this time for best "Conceptual Sci-Fi".  What does that even mean?  We have no idea, but who cares... as per usual, we go with it and have a fantastic time doing so.

Joining the show is the Rocket Man himself, Uncle Brian E, as he, Mikey, d$, and #TwitterlessDrEarl play a little round of ABCDeez, borrowing from fellow podcaster Doug Benson, as we use letters from a movie phrase to call out movie titles, figure out the theme and try to match up.

Then, a series of categories, from "robots" to "time travel" to "realistic" and more, calling out movies in many of those categories, plus all the discussion that go with it.

And Mikey met up with Glosson to see Petra. Not Pantera.

Films discussed tonight:

Episode 587: Recasting

After two weeks of First Timers in both FanBoySummer and on the show totally, it was time to bring a veteran to guest star -- as in, one time last summer (Ep 539) but now, the host of the Food for Thought Podcast, Melissa Reagan is here!

Her topic of choice for Dave, Mikey, and #TwitterlessDrEarl is to recast... recast what, you ask? Dealer's choice. Find a major role, put someone else there and see if it fits.

First up, the Birthday Movies, as we come to grips with the fact Ocean's 8 is five years old, Black Dog is 25 years old, The Great Outdoors is 35 years old and even more.

Then a new twist on an old game, Simple Summer Trivia, as all indication points to another big win for Mikey, who usually dominates in this game.

And finally, what happens if River Phoenix becomes Han Solo?  And Harrison Ford plays Sam Spade?  We get a rundown of Hilary Swank's career post Oscar, and what manic personality should have played Genie in 2019's Aladdin remake?

Some recasting roles at the time the actors were hot, and some recasting by taking modern actors and placing them into classic films - all makes for a good discussion.  And finally, somewhere d$ can drivel about his Snape complaints.

Plus a bonus convo, with some real life "almost happened" roles from certain actors, including an unlikely pair that was considered for La La Land, a total near disaster for Forrest Gump, who could beat Viggo as Aragorn, and what if... just what if ScarJo wasn't the right person for Black Widow...

Episode 586: The Soundtracks List

It's the 2nd week of FanboySummer and Mikey, d$, and #TwitterlessDrEarl invite in long time listener, first time on the show, host of the Harmanny Music Education Podcast the one and only Mr. Craig Holland... er, Harmann!

After a little chit-chat, finding out about the podcast itself, the group plays the Soundtrack Sales game (boring title, exciting action) and #TwitterlessDrEarl likely never full understands it.

Then, the guys give their favorite Top Five Movie soundtracks, each with their own stories and thoughts, from movies seen at Panama City Beach to lifelong friendships made in defunct movie theaters to pining for girls who never pined back to a love for Rowlf the Dogg.

Also... Kenny Loggins soundtrack songs... Dr Earl talks about "Footin"... matching Jewel with Batman... and Mikey gets verklempt...

Plus the real truth about NRG and the band Kick Axe
