Episode 489: Top Summer Movies 2000 to 2004

The summer is half over, and the summer series is rounding the corner toward homestretch (that's a baseball metaphor for you folks out there). Mikey and Dave, again sans #TwitterlessDrEarl, take up the mantle of more summer cinema, this time the best from Memorial Day to Labor Day in 2000 to 2004, and the guys bring back Miss Independent himself Jeremy Burgess to the show.

After catching up with The Burgeler (new reality show premiered this Fall on ABC), they play a little 2000s themed Rotten Tomatoes game, with the possible first time mention of "Shark Tale" ever on the podcast (and maybe the first time since the early 2000s anyone has thought of it), then onto the Top Five.

Nic Cage and Costner both make random appearances, with Spielberg films about airports and pre-cognitions also show up. Plus, the lower of the Mission Impossibles, Jamie Foxx and his Collateral, the beginning of the super hero era, Harry Potter shows up, Nicole Kidman's classics, Jay and Silent Bob go after their MoFo movie check, and the Black Pearl.

And Dougray Scott. Or Doogray, as it may be.

Episode 437: The Top 10 of the 2010s

It's another episode of The Deucecast Movie Show, this time, a very special episode. But unlike the "very special episodes" of the 80s where kids are put into uncomfortable situations, Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl pay off a promise from earlier in the year.

Back in February, episodes 418 and 419, Burgess joined the team to do two "Decade By Genre" shows, giving the top three of multiple categories, with intentions of doing a full Top Ten of the 2010s. Then, as you may have guessed, the world went crazy then shut down, and as the guys went to the four corners of the wind to do the show, the topic got shelved.

Finally, however, The Top 10 of the 2010s is here!

First up, the return of Birthday Movies, with everything from Minions to Crimson Tide to Animalypics to Psycho all celebrating release anniversaries, then a quick round of the Rotten Tomatoes Game, dedicated to the recently passed and prolific director Joel Schumacher.

And then, the list that took ten years to make -- any movie released at 12:01am on Jan 1, 2010 to 11:59pm on Dec 31, 2019 -- and the lists are all over the place -- comic book movies, action movies, missionary dramas, Nolan, Scorcese, Garland, Fincher, and much more. Great conversation about films that are talked about and beloved from the last ten years.

Here's where to find movies discussed, at current time of recording:
  • American Hustle (FX Now)
  • Avengers Infinity War (Disney+)
  • Batman Forever (HBO Max)
  • Birdman (rental)
  • Blade Runner 2049 (rental)
  • Captain America Civil War (Disney+)
  • Dunkirk (rental)
  • Ex Machina (Netflix)
  • The Guest (Netflix)
  • A Hidden Life (rental)
  • Hell or High Water (Netflix)
  • Inception (Netflix)
  • Lady Bird (Netflix)
  • Liberal Arts (SlingTV)
  • Logan (FX Now; DirecTV)
  • Mad Max Fury Road (Fubo; Syfy)
  • The Master (Netflix)
  • Moneyball (Starz)
  • Moonrise Kingdom (DirecTV)
  • Parasite (Hulu)
  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Disney+)
  • Silence (Popcorn Flix)
  • Silver Linings Playbook
  • Sing Street (rental)
  • The Social Network (Netflix)
  • Spotlight (IMDb TV)
  • The Tree of Life (HBO Max)
  • Uncut Gems (Netflix)
  • Wind River (rental)

Episode 257: 2016's Christmas Gifts to the Stars

Another year is winding down, and the generosity of Mikey, Pinky, Dave and guest Remodling Clay Shaver knows no ending.

It's the annual episode where the hosts of the show (and guests) give out Christmas gifts to the celebrities and movie stars who need a little Christmas cheer.

First up, Remodeling Clay, who's words will discount or qualify the validity of a song when it comes to the "Christmas" label, gives his take on a classic by The Eagles.

The presents flow readily... gifts for Amy Adams... Bradley Cooper... Brendan Fraser... Kevin Hart... the cast of Ice Age... Marvel... John Cena... M Night Shymalan... even Vanessa Hudgens... and someone gives a gift to themselves, involving Dermot Mulrooney.  Wait, Dylan McDermont. Wait, Dermot McDermot. Um... Dylan Muldermot?  Well, crap. You know that guy.

And does James Cameron need an epiphany? Should Crackle have the ability to make Oscar nominated films?  Can there be a "no fly" list for reboots?  Find out in this ep (spoiler: The answer is Yes to all three)

Thanks for a great year, thanks for listening, subscribing and being a Deucecast Movie Show Fan!!

Episode 185: Top 100... 80 thru 71

Back when Lindsay Lohan was awesome, beautiful,
wonderful and normal.  And check out those hotties
in the back.
The numbers get smaller, and the hits just keep getting bigger (RIP, Casey Kasem)... it's another Top 100 Favorite Films episode, as Mikey, Pinky & d$ give you their 80th favorite films.  Then their 79th... followed by their 78th... and even though mathing is hard, you'll see where this ends up, all the way down to 71...

After a quick trip into the films of Rob Schneider in a "See This Not That" segment, the fave films start coming... who is the pansy who loves The Blind Side?   Who is the weirdo who loves Little Miss Sunshine so much?  And who truly is "MagnoliaFan69"?  Abigail Breslin makes two appearances this time around, as does Sandra Bullock, while music from The George Baker Selection, Janet Jackson, Luther Vandross and even Ray Stevens is heard, another film is crossed over on two lists and listen to Mikey's list carefully... something just doesn't line up (but it will make sense in a (back to the) future episode, we promise!

Oh, and Mikey says "Woody Harrelanaissance".  Don't ask why.  Or how.

The Episode with the Awesome Draft

Here comes your movie-guiding-light through tumult of bad film and greatness of good cinema... whatever that means.

Mikey, P!nky and d$ once again take the microphones, sans two turntables, to tell you about all the good and bad movies they've seen, what you should see and avoid, and to rib P!nky about his growing Jimmy Stewart obsession.

We discuss at length films like The Amazing Spider Man 2... A Million Ways to Die in the West... Neighbors... It's a Wonderful Life... and of course, X-Men: Days of Future Past...

A stirring game of Ryan Phillippe holds forth, moderated skillfully by P!nky (how many Chris Cooper movies can YOU name?) and our first edition of Pretty in Pink, where Mikey and d$ make the prediction as to how much he liked Dirty Dancing upon seeing it recently for the first time.

The guys then hold the first ever 2014 Deucecast BadA** Draft, where we decide which action characters would fill up a 10 person roster of the most awesome, kick buttedness team we could possibly put together... names like John Matrix (Commando)... Ripley (Alien)... James Bond (the Casino Royale version)... Jason Bourne... and who picks The Bear Jew from Inglorious Basterds?  Find out!

A great discussion is had on the upcoming Star Wars dealings, including recent casting news and a prospective one-off film, and what the guys think it will be, then a rabbit trail discussion on how Disney and Star Wars is faring against Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando.

We wrap it up with the promise of movies that will be seen over the next month and discussed, including Frozen Ground, the new epic with Cusack and Cage... Never Sleep Again, a four hour doc on Nightmare on Elm Street... and Ashley Judd's award winning story of Flypaper.

Join us next month as the discussion turns to favorite sidekicks in movies, plus a 1932 classic that Mikey has to force himself to watch.
