Episode 440: Patriotic Roles 2: The Patrioettes

Because America rules, it's another episode of The Deucecast Movie Show!  Last week, Dave, Mikey, and #TwitterlessDrEarl, with special guest Lil G Ryfun, the pride of South TyTy Georgia, gave their lists of the most patriotic roles in movies... and a funny thing happened -- they all seemed to be dudes.

So what better way to reconcile this blunder than to do an all female list of patriotic roles, which, like last week, is really just a list of awesome American characters in films that all the guys decided to dub "patriotic", but #Merica anyway.

First up, though, a rousing game of Ryan Phillippe, with everyone from Sigourney Weaver to one Christopher Pratt being called out.

Then, the list, which includes Mikey's total misunderstanding (and defense of Padme)... #TwitterlessDrEarl goes old school again... who won what award in Hidden Figures and The Help... Lil G Ryfun squeezes in a Nolan... Emily Blunt gets double action... an Amy Adams discussion and it's not from d$... and much more.

Where the movies discussed on this episode are streaming at the time of this recording:

  • The American President (Hulu)
  • Broadcast News (DirecTV)
  • Edge of Tomorrow (Live.Die.Repeat) (USA Network)

Episode 437: The Top 10 of the 2010s

It's another episode of The Deucecast Movie Show, this time, a very special episode. But unlike the "very special episodes" of the 80s where kids are put into uncomfortable situations, Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl pay off a promise from earlier in the year.

Back in February, episodes 418 and 419, Burgess joined the team to do two "Decade By Genre" shows, giving the top three of multiple categories, with intentions of doing a full Top Ten of the 2010s. Then, as you may have guessed, the world went crazy then shut down, and as the guys went to the four corners of the wind to do the show, the topic got shelved.

Finally, however, The Top 10 of the 2010s is here!

First up, the return of Birthday Movies, with everything from Minions to Crimson Tide to Animalypics to Psycho all celebrating release anniversaries, then a quick round of the Rotten Tomatoes Game, dedicated to the recently passed and prolific director Joel Schumacher.

And then, the list that took ten years to make -- any movie released at 12:01am on Jan 1, 2010 to 11:59pm on Dec 31, 2019 -- and the lists are all over the place -- comic book movies, action movies, missionary dramas, Nolan, Scorcese, Garland, Fincher, and much more. Great conversation about films that are talked about and beloved from the last ten years.

Here's where to find movies discussed, at current time of recording:
  • American Hustle (FX Now)
  • Avengers Infinity War (Disney+)
  • Batman Forever (HBO Max)
  • Birdman (rental)
  • Blade Runner 2049 (rental)
  • Captain America Civil War (Disney+)
  • Dunkirk (rental)
  • Ex Machina (Netflix)
  • The Guest (Netflix)
  • A Hidden Life (rental)
  • Hell or High Water (Netflix)
  • Inception (Netflix)
  • Lady Bird (Netflix)
  • Liberal Arts (SlingTV)
  • Logan (FX Now; DirecTV)
  • Mad Max Fury Road (Fubo; Syfy)
  • The Master (Netflix)
  • Moneyball (Starz)
  • Moonrise Kingdom (DirecTV)
  • Parasite (Hulu)
  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Disney+)
  • Silence (Popcorn Flix)
  • Silver Linings Playbook
  • Sing Street (rental)
  • The Social Network (Netflix)
  • Spotlight (IMDb TV)
  • The Tree of Life (HBO Max)
  • Uncut Gems (Netflix)
  • Wind River (rental)

Episode XCIX: Dr. StrangePod: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Deuce

We're back, and one step closer to the highly anticipated Episode 100, but first we bring you Episode 99, sans Dave. Not to fear though, Mike has support from Dr. Earl and Pinky.

On this episode Mike talks about his boredom at VeggieTales Live!, Dr. Earl acts like it's no big deal to ski at Breckenridge, CO, and Pinky nods and smiles at the two old dudes talking about stuff that old dudes talk about.

Producer Tommy brings in a very special drink from Wally World called Mistic. We, of course, make Pinky try the Carrot Orange flavor.

Mike brings us a new music from the "Yeah Yeah Yeahs," and without Dave there is no palate cleanser, so Mike prevails in bringing the listener the best music on a podcast recorded on a Wednesday night from a basement off the 280 corridor.

We have a listener-fueled "Dying with Dr. Earl" with some very hard-hitting medical questions for the Good Doctor.

A new movie game Mike calls "You're Quite the Character" is introduced, and based upon Dr. Earl's wisdom (not his age) he dominates young Pinky.

We wrap up the show with a Big 3 discussion on our most anticipated summer movies, and, of course, Dr. Earl has to mention some random Terrence Malick film.

Be sure to join us next week for Episode 100. We are having tons of guests, including a very special guest from out of town.

Episode LXIII: Magic Mikey

After a what feels like a month long haitus--and let's face it, a week away is a week too much, let alone a month--The Deucecast is BACK!!!

Welcome to Episode LXIII: Magic Mikey, and we welcome back Drewski to the studio.  We kick it off with a splendid Good & Delish Drink, and discuss our week in awesomeness... the guys took a journey to IMAX to see "The Dark Knight Rises" as Chris Nolan intended it--huge screen!

We also discuss Mikey's upcoming venture to Star Wars Celebration VI... and d$'s dental gagging (?!)...  Penn State's punishment... the legacy of Batman... and Drew's hipsterness of "Chocolat" and "The Cider House Rules".

We also dive into Mikey's Disney Adventure, with a quick run through of Epcot and the Magic Kingdom and the reason he missed The Kali River Rapids... again.

Mikey's Music Minute makes an (un)welcome return with some crap called White Rabbits ... and on the Big Three we discusses our favorite movie trilogies, touching on the worth of such series as "Back to the Future", the "Bourne" films, the "Oceans" trilogy... and of course, "The Lord of the Rings" and "Batman".

The Ryan Phillippe game comes back, with Drew bringing his A game for Tom Hanks, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and so much more.   And... Tone Loc watch returns!

We dish on the films we enjoyed these past few weeks, including "The Amazing Spiderman"... "The China Syndrome"... "21 Jump Street"... the atrocious "Black Swan"... and all of us loved "The Dark Knight Rises".

Join us next week as we bring in Big Wookiee to The Deucecast Studios, and we pick our Big Three Favorite Athletes in Movies... Mikey brings more musical crap and d$ has a great Buried Treasure lined up for all of us.  That's all on The Deucecast Episode LXIV: The Deucecast Beyond Thunderdome.

Episode LIX: The Podcast Supremacy

One step closer to the monumental Episode Sixty (well, all the shows are monumental, this one just happens to be a 10-number milestone, next week), its The Deucecast Episode the Fifty Ninth: The Podcast Supremacy.

This famous scene from Reservoir Dogs made someone's list of Favorite
Opening Sequences in Movies
Mikey lets us know that when the wife is away, the Mikey will play, at least in terms of going to the movies over and over and over and over... and hooking up!  (the surround sound, that is), plus a visit to a local brewery... that is only slightly less impressive than the travels of returning guest The Good Doctor Earl, who is back from a The Deucecast assignment in the Dominican Republic, infection and all.

Mike's music lets us in on some Of Monsters and Men, while The Dying with Dr. Earl segment (sponsored by AudibleTrial.com/DEUCE) covers the crazy "face eating" story from south Florida.  And The Ryan Phillippe game is up, played fast and furious and covering such luminaries as Denzel, Jude Law and, really, how many Julia Roberts movies can you name under pressure?

This slightly less well known scene from the less well known
independent film "Reservoir Deuce" did not make anyone's list
The Big Three is our favorite opening scenes to movies, and we cover films from Spielberg, Nolan, Tarantino, Pixar, and even a little classical music too.

We also hit on Prometheus, Snow White and the Huntsman, John Carter, Chronicle, That Thing You Do!, Rio and more, plus an in-depth (re: d$ was snoozing) discussion on IMAX technology, and chatter on The Hobbit and Mikey's love of Kirsten Dunst.

Check us out next week, when Drewski Poohski makes his big June debut on The Big Show, bringing another movie smorg... The Buried Treasure returns with a classic Americana film that's a little unCommon... Mikey gives us more musical crap to have to suffer through... and we give you The Big Three Favorite Musical Scenes in all of filmdom.  You can catch that on The Deucecast Episode LX: The Podcast Ultimatum
