Episode 662: The 2025 Movie Auction

It's that time of the year, when the annual Movie Auction takes place... and by "the annual", we mean the second one we've ever done!

In a concept borrowed from The Big Picture Podcast (all nods and love to Amanda Dobbins, Chris Ryan, and Sean Fennessey), Mikey and d$ are joined by Friends of the Show Garrison "Pride of Kennesaw" Ryfun and Roth from Wyoming to fill out their roster of films for 2025.

Everyone has a proverbial $1000 to work with, as various movies are put on the auction block and bid for - with the intentions of getting the movies that will make the most money domestically, as well as will get both Oscar love in early 2026.

The big ones are all hear -- Fantastic Four, Avatar, Wicked, and Superman included -- plus some surprises, like live action Stitch and Toothless, a Peruvian Paddington, more dinosaurs, and Glen Powell running.

A Rotten Tomatoes game determines the draft order, and will Roth go rogue again??

Deucecast Extra: Gunn's DC Plans & The Bad Batch

In an extra ep from The Deucecast - mostly in part because d$ is currently on a boat in the Caribbean Sea, but also because #TwitterlessDrEarl just wanted a day off, and Mikey didn't feel like recording on a Tuesday morning.

But either way, it's an audio experience of the Deucecast Extra on the YouTube Channel, this time all about James Gunn's speech concerning the future of DC films. Plus Rhett is here to say things like "The majority of the population are morons.

Episode 474: Zack Snyders See This Not That

The Deucecast Movie Show crew has returned after a week off, and they are ready to rumble when it comes to movies.  First up, Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl take a look at the recent Oscar nominations and give their thoughts -- surprises, expectations, snubs, and a few predictions.

Next, a longer discussion on the recent release of the four hour Zack Snyder's Justice League, how it's better, some of the differences, and thoughts on the Josstice League by comparison.

Then, an episode long round of See This Not That, looking at 15 members of the Zack Snyder's Justice League cast and picking for each a movie to "See This" and then a movie to "Not That", from JK Simmons to Robin Wright to Diane Lane to Jason Mamoa (and even a little Jason MaNO-AH). And of course, Dave's girlfriend, Amy Adams.

Episode 384: The Superhero Role Championship

In this superhero edition of The Deucecast Movie Show, Mikey and Dave, sans #TwitterlessDrEarl, take on the long running Tourney series, this time with a heroic task... the best superhero role in the movies.

Of course, its a heroic superhero task that cannot be tackled by two yay-hoos like Mikey and Dave... at least not just them. So they bring in someone who is half their age and just as dorky, the Son of Ryfun, the Golden Child of Waybridge, Georgia, Little G himself, Garrison.

And the tourney kicks in, with matches like Superman taking on Superman, Batman against Batman, X v X, Guardians tackling Guardians... if you liked Batman v Superman, this is much better. If you liked Captain America Civil War, this isn't nearly as good, but its better than Batman v Superman!

And what a tourney it turns out to be!

Episode 220: The DC Comic / BvS Show

When you say comic, you are likely talking about Mikey, Pinky & Dave in The Deucecast Movie Show!  In fact, you can't say Deucecast without DC... even though the guys are more Marvel, they dive into DC Comic movies!

Joining the group is Terrance Malick Apologist and Film Historian Dr Earl, aka, McDreamySteamy, and Friend of the Show, host of the Remodeling Clay podcast Clay Shaver.

Up first are the birthday movies ("Bridget Jones Diary" is how old??), and then a new segment where the group is forced to discuss situations where Tom Cruise may never win an Academy Award... where Adam Sandler never gets his groove back, if he had a groove... or Avengers Infinity War makes a billion dollars and yet, isn't any good.

Favorite DC Comic movies is the topic, and though there is a lot of Batman and Superman, there is also some Violence, some Perdition, a few Losers, a Vendetta, a Hornet.. and yes, Blue Junk.

You'll also hear a callback to "Swordfish"... Mikey the Contrarian... and mentions of Jacquline Bisset, David Schwimmer as Superman AND a Plastic Man addition, though that might be a stretch.

The talk eventually turns to the spectacle that is "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", recently released.  Starring Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck, with Gal Gadot and Jessie Eisenberg, Mikey's boyfriend Kevin Costner in a flashback and Dave's love of Amy Adams, the film is divisive among the hosts and guests...

The first bit of discussion is spoiler free, just overall opinions... there is a warning given, then a dive into much deeper discussion, filled with spoilers.

And you'll also get to hear the latest "Pretty in Pink"... find out what Pinky thinks of "The Lost Boys"

Tuesday, February 2, 2016

Episode 210: The 2016 Movie Preview (and Top 100 Review)

Two big segments on the show this week!  Mikey, Pinky & Dave have a host-filled episode with no one else in studio but Producer Tommy holding down the keyboard, monitor and brass section.  And of course, Producer Shawn, always on the Annex Couch, first to arrive and last to leave.  Thank you, Producer Shawn, for your hard work and dedication to the cause of Deucentertainment.

A little "Stay Seated // Walk Out" discussion brings us answers to the questions of "Will Quentin Tarantino actually retire after his 10th film?" and "Have we had enough of Brad & Jen?" and "Should JJ Abrams be bought for reviving a huge Marvel franchise?"

And what franchise could JJ take over that would save it from the depths of suck?

The summer movie preview takes a gander at upcoming big films and Mike, Pinky & Dave's takes on them...

Chats commence about Benedict Cumberbatch in "Dr. Strange"... "Neighbors 2" with Seth Rogen & Zac Efron... the obligation to see "Batman v  Superman: Dawn of Justice"... love for Emily Blunt in "Girl on the Train"... some Clooney film called "Money Monster"... prospects for the chick "Ghostbusters"... how Pinky HATES "Ghostbusters"... Tom Hanks latest Oscar grab... the most tongue-in-cheek Marvel film to date... Jennifer Lawrence and Hugh Jackman begin wrapping up their time in the X-Universe... the latest Da Vinci Code movie... Emma Stone & Ryan Gosling re-team... Pixar's "Finding Nemo"... Matt McConaughy in a Civil War drama... excitement for "Suicide Squad"... the mixed opinions on the new "Star Trek" films... Jeff Goldblum in "ID Resurgence"... hopes for Billy Zane in "Zoolander Eye Eye"... Disney's "Moana" & "Zootopia" and the Disney-like "Secret Life of Pets"...

Also, featuring a lengthy conversation on returning to the world of Harry Potter in "Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them".  Is JK Rowling doing too much?  What are the prospects for success?  Will it succeed or fail?

More thoughts on "Captain America Civil War", asking the heartbreaking question "...Captain America is fighting Iron Man?" and how massive this will be.

"Rogue One" and the label of "A Star Wars Story"... will it help?  And is Biggs Darklighter making a real appearance?

Then, the show shifts to a quick overview of the Top 100 so far... what movies will need to go in upon further review?  "Nightcrawler"?  "Thank You For Smoking"?  "Leap Year" with Amy Adams?
What movies might fall out of the lists?  Movies that are more about nostalgia like "Monty Python & the Holy Grail" or movies that are good for one viewing like "The Godfather" or movies that can just be bumped, like "Dogma".

And then movies that are too recent to count, but could easily find their way into the Top 100 lists, movies like "Mad Max Fury Road", or movies that need to move up the lists, like "Fargo".

Finally... Pinky gives the films that he thinks will make it into his new Top 100 list.  Its about 100 films long.  Stay tuned.

Episode 159: The Oscar Prediction Show

It's once again that time for our favorite award show to commence... no, not the BET Source Awards--though with Pinky, that's right on up there...

No, it's the Academy Awards, and The Deucecast Movie Show Guys are right here to break down all the categories from Sound Mixing and Sound Editing (what's the difference?!) to why Guardians of the Galaxy might not be a safe pick for the Makeup award.

Plus... its the nominations for our 2nd Annual Deucie Awards--nominations for real movie fans... best action movie... best sci-fi... best drama... worst performance (how else could Dumb & Dumber To get two nominations)... and so much more, sprinkled throughout the show.

The guys invite in local filmmaker Jeremy Burgess ("Dead Saturday"--check it out), along with friend of the show Craig McRee, both avid film lovers, to pitch in and help wade through all the movies nominated.

Along the way, you'll find out how old Revenge with Kevin Costner is... and Debra Messing's The Wedding Date... how badly Pinky hates The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and loves Superman III... and why Eric Roberts coming to town is a big deal.

The guys introduce a new segment called "Stay Seated or Walk Out". Rehash topics on the snubbing of Selma for most awards, Johnny Depp's leading man potential, and then wonder about Michael Keaton's potential for winning Best Actor based on performance... or career (Denzel, anyone?)

Category by category nominations are discussed and predictions are made, including an in depth discussion of each of the 8 Best Picture nominees... The Theory of Everything... Selma... the glory of Birdman... the wonder of Keira Knightly in The Imitation Game... J.K. Simmon's intensity in Whiplash... whether American Sniper is overrated... whether The Grand Budapest Hotel is too quirky for it's own good... and, of course, the three hosts and two guests butt heads over a little film called Boyhood.

And if you are listeners "Rail Ranger", "Casey Lewis" or "Rick Theule", contact us at TheDeucecast@gmail.com to claim your movie passes, as you are winners! You have until March 4th to let us know where you are!!

And join us next week as we finally say goodbye to 2014, counting down our 10 favorite from the year.
