Episode 684: The Top Ten of 1984

The year is 1984... Mikey and d$ were kids... Dr Earl was a young dude. And Aussie Nate wasn't even born... but it was a very, very good year!

Its the second week of our Summer Series as we look back at many years past, and the greatest movies from those years... and today, we invite in Friend of the Show Aussie Nate, who picks the year 1984.

When we did our Greatest Movie Year Tourney back in the day, 1984 was the winner and this year is stacked!

From fake band mockumentarys to movies that are pretty much be canceled to Indy trilogy to Axel Foley's first appearance to Daniel Sahn's first appearance (and did Johnny actually win? or cheat?) and the trouble with not feeding them after midnight, plus multiple Toxie movies and a neverending franchise, and the truth about Scotty Schwartz and Kidco...

Next week!  2000!!

Episode 639: My Favorite Summer... The Action Movies

What good is My Favorite Summer if we can't have explosions, bad guys getting shot, car chases, high kicks to the face and more explosions?  Thats why we have the Action Movies!

Mikey, d$, and #XLessDrEarl bring in Friend of the Show Aussie Nate to talk about their favorite top ten all time movies consider action... and maybe a little sci-fi?

First, birthday movies, learning how old Boyhood is, Runaway Bride, Angels in the Outfield and even Mikey's fave, Babar: The Movie.

Then, a Prime Day update, and Aussie's experience seeing his fave film in the theaters.

Finally, the guys chat about their own personal rankings of action movies, including Axel Foley's adventures, Jason Bourne's identity, Nic Cage out of prison, John McClane in airplanes and skyscrapers, John Wick falling down stairs, Jackie Chan kicking people, Indiana Jones being doomed, and the best portrayal of Wyatt Earp in cinematic history.

Episode 635: The Extra Stuff

The My Favorite Summer series takes a slight break this week, but not to give a classic episode... this week, d$, Mikey, and #XlessDrEarl drops in your lap a bunch of extra content...

First, the Deucies Reaction Show -- friends of the show, Garrison "Pride of Sylvester" Ryfun, Roth from Wyoming, Aussie Nate, and The Burgeler himself, Jeremy Burgess give their thoughts on the awards given, those snubbed, who should have won and who did win based on The 11th Annual Deucie Awards, episode 626.

Next, a little extra Jeremy Burgess, giving his thoughts on possible winners of the Deucie Screenplay Award.

If this is your first time listening to our show... we beg you, find another episode to get used to us.

If you are a regular listener... first, we're sorry, but then, THANKS and enjoy the randomness this week, and we'll see you for Documentaries next week!

Episode 626: The 2024 Deucie Awards (and the Top 10 of the Year)

Normally, when you hear "A tradition unlike any other", you think The Masters, as that's the slogan. However, it is a slogan that more closely describes THE DEUCIE AWARDS!!

For the 11th time, Dave and Mikey, now joined by #XLessDrEarl, preside over the "people's movie awards"... and the top 10 of the year as well!

And to assist, the Deucecast crew invites in many friends of the show, from Burgess to Kaufman to Aussie to the Ryfuns and even more -- with an assist from The Main Street Electrical Podcast co-host Jenn Novotny, it's quite an award-fest!

In addition, Dave, Mikey, and Dr Earl give their own fave films of the year -- you can likely guess the films that make all three lists, but there are a few out of left field as well.

Make sure to catch Ep 621 from a few weeks ago, where we do our "just outside the top ten" list...

Make sure to follow along with the winners!

DCMS Episode 600: The Big Bracket

Finally, after all the hubbub and chatter and stops and starts, Mikey, d$ and #XLessDr Earl have made it to the culmination of topics of 28 previous episodes... The Big Bracket.

From Episode 291 to Episode 599, 36 movie roles were chosen and now will face off one on one... a majority vote rules, as the crew goes through the match ups one at at time.

But what fun is a Movie Role Bracket if there aren't more Friends of the Show joining up?  And Friends of the Show join up... producing the show is Roth from Wyoming and stepping in is Lil G "Pride of Albany" Ryfun... then along the way comes (in order of appearance...) Lil Andy... Aussie Nate... Hurricane Rhett... "Amish" Jenn Novotny... Jenny Kaufman... Matty Mink... Uncle Brian... Coach DiBello... and of course, The Icon, Scotty "Ryfulicious" Ryfun...

It's absolutely the longest episode we've ever done, as we agreed early on there would be no Big Bracket in 601 -- the group powers through the entire show. New theme songs, familiar favorites, jokes fly, Garrison drives, Mikey has a delay, Earl changes his mind, d$ keeps it all moving.

Enjoy the show.

Episode 598: Recasting the Avengers

As the summer comes to a close, so does 2023 edition, and the final edition of #FanBoySummer this year (and possibly for a while), Dave, Mikey, and #XLessDrEarl welcome back one of the show faves -- Straight Outta Iowa, it's Aussie Nate!

First, a quick catch-up on Nate, then a rousing round of Denzel... where #XLessDrEarl goes straight for the jugular in his ruthless ambition to win.

Then, Aussie Nate instructs the group on the topic for the day. Something something about recasting the main Avengers - Tony Stark, Cap, Nat, Hawkeye, Thor, and Hulk - and doing it per decade but keeping one of the originals that doesn't count for the 2000s but then in order so like the 90s first then the 80s then back to the 2000s and whatever.

As you'll hear, Mikey screwed up all the instructions. Either way, it makes for a delightful conversation, one that ends with quick chatter on the Star Wars Holiday Special screening from the weekend, mad props to Friend of the Show Burgeydoodle for his big win, and much more random conversation.

Episode 561: 3 Podcast Men (the guest host show)

While Mikey has missed maybe 2 episodes, and d$ has missed maybe 3 eps, and #TwitterlessDrEarl has only been a regular for the last few hundred eps, now for the first time in almost 12 years and 560 episodes, neither Mikey nor d$ nor #TwitterlessDrEarl are on the show itself.

Instead, three show icons, three show legends, three show fan favorites, three show regulars take over the show... Aussie Nate, Spawn of Ryfun, aka, Lil G, and Roth from Wyoming pick up the reigns as the regular guys are out of action for the week (re: d$ is in Orlando and Mikey is watching movies and #TwitterlessDrEarl just likes the weekend off) and after firing off a quick round of Rotten Tomatoes, they dive right into Top Five Recasted Characters.

From a super spy to a dark knight to a space smuggler to Old Kris Kringle himself, Lil G, Aussie, and Roth serve up their fave characters that were redone even better.

Also, Garrison has never seen Christmas Vacation, and hates Ernest movies, so he will likely not ever be asked back.

Episode 436: Down Under the Radar

Flying Under the Radar is a delicate balance of being unknown but also being awesome. The Deucecast Movie Show is just like that too, so there is experience here.

And to celebrate being Under the Radar, Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl bring in their fellow movie phile, the movie watcha from down unda', Aussie Nate, for a great discussion about the corn stereotype in Iowa... the fires in Australia... and life for Friend of the Show Aussie Nate.

Then a rousing game of Denzel, aka, Playa to Playa, Pimp to Pimp, and finally, the topic of the day -- movies that fell under the radar... good films that no one talks about anymore or many people may have forgotten about completely.

Great hidden gems that were huge at the time and tossed asunder now -- Bolt! Money Talks! Jackie Brown! -- or maybe were never big at all before being asunder tossed -- Mean Machine? Thunder Road?
