Episode 611: The 2023 Lumps of Coal

Like the Daytona 500, it's a tradition unlike any other. A look back at the films this year that just made our heads spin in circles about why they are just so not good.

Out of the dozens of films The Deucecast Movie Show loved, out of the hundreds of movies the Deucecast Movie Show liked... there are a handful of movies -- or in #TwitterlessDrEarl's case, tropes, patterns, directors and the like -- that just didn't land... or maybe landed with a crash and burn in a bad way.

First up, a quick spoiler-free review of the latest, and possibly final film in this current DCU series -- "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom". Some honest takes on what worked (a few things) and what didn't (a lot of things).

Then, the top (bottom) movies of the year for Mikey, d$, and #XLessDrEarl... the movies that made all of them cringe, throw popcorn, get upset at how bad they are, or even disappointed at how good they were supposed to be.

The last episode of the year!!

Movies & where they are streaming at the time of recording

  • Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania (Disney+)
  • Aquaman & the Lost Kingdom (in theaters)
  • Bama Rush (MAX)
  • Cocaine Bear (Amazon Prime)
  • Fair Play (Netflix)
  • Fast X (Peacock Premium)
  • Fear the Night (Showtime; Paramount+)
  • Ghosted (AppleTV+)
  • Heart of Stone (Netflix)
  • Padre Pio (Amazon Prime; TubiTV)
  • Renfield (Amazon Prime)
  • The Retirement Plan (Hulu)
  • Trucks (TubiTV)
  • Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey (Peacock Premium)

Episode 575: that reflicktion you do!

It's Springtime and it's movie time, and its ReFlicktions time! Once a month the guys come together to discuss... or "ReFlick'ed" if you will... the movies they've seen in the last several weeks. Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl each have a handful of films both in theaters ("65!") and streaming ("Pit Fighter"!) and new ("Creed III"!) and old ("Bad Influence"!) and even another Bond in d$'s ongoing Bond Watch.

But sometimes, you need an extra voice to add to the conversation, so we welcome back to the show, Steve "The Voice" Glosson!

Everyone loved "Jesus Revolution", the reaction was mixed on "Cocaine Bear", Mikey has a Scott Adkins obsession, d$ is after Anya Taylor Joy movies, Glosson is revisiting Mission: Impossible, and #TwitterlessDrEarl has finally gone all in on The Wick.

Plus a whole lot more in the films reviewed and discussed, and you can find them here (at time of recording):

  • Jesus Revolution (in theaters)
  • Cocaine Bear (in theaters)
  • Accident Man (Amazon Prime)
  • Black Mask 2: City of Masks (TubiTV)
  • Pit Fighter (TubiTV)
  • The Tournament (TubiTV)
  • Ant-Man QuantaMania (in theaters)
  • From Russia with Love (Paramount+; MGM+)
  • Women Talking (for rental)
  • Creed III (in theaters)
  • Mission Impossible series
  • Bad Influence (TubiTV)
  • Shazam! Fury of the Gods (in theaters)
  • Mission Impossible series (spread out among Paramount+, FXNow, Amazon Prime)
  • We Have a Ghost (Netflix)

Deucecast Extra: Gunn's DC Plans & The Bad Batch

In an extra ep from The Deucecast - mostly in part because d$ is currently on a boat in the Caribbean Sea, but also because #TwitterlessDrEarl just wanted a day off, and Mikey didn't feel like recording on a Tuesday morning.

But either way, it's an audio experience of the Deucecast Extra on the YouTube Channel, this time all about James Gunn's speech concerning the future of DC films. Plus Rhett is here to say things like "The majority of the population are morons.
