Episode 513: Lumps of Coal 2021

In an annual tradition, out of the dozens of movies the Deucecast loved... and out of the hundreds of movies The Deucecast guys liked... there are those that just didn't land, or maybe even crashed and burned in a spectacularly bad way.

Mikey, d$, and The Surgical Dr Earl welcome in the Spawn of Ryfun, Lil G Dawg, to discuss the bad, the terrible, the horrible, and the worst movies seen all year long.

First up, a few "gifts" from the previous episode, as Dr Earl and Lil G discuss whatever the crap Malick is doing, while d$ gives Dr Earl his epic present for the year.  And Dr Earl hands out some gifts of his very own!

Then, a look at the worst of the worst, with bad Tom Holland... worst Anne Hathaway... crap Marvel films... sucktastic remakes... horrifically bad horror flicks... awful Lebron... a Costas Mandylor film... disappointing Jessie Spano... boring Hugh Jackman... the well made, good movies that d$ just didn't like, or get, the Nic Cage movie that broke Lil G...

And the Bruce Willis film that broke Mikey.

Episode 512: Christmas Gifts 2021

If you listen to the episode, you may recognize the opening theme, the best time of the year, when the Deucecast Movie Show plays the official Christmas theme of the show.  It truly is a Marshmallow World.

Dave and Mikey, sans #TwitterlessDrEarl, are here once again to give out their annual Christmas gifts to the stars, and joining the show for the second time in the Christmas season, it's Spawn of Ryfun, Lil G himself Garrison Ryfun.

First up, a quick conversation on Spider-Man No Way Home, then a round of Box Office Mojo, looking at the biggest money makers of 2021...

Then the guys begin to give out the gifts!  Ridley Scott has a present to open, if he can take it without telling Garrison to F off... Episode 510: Christmas Movie Families

Feliz Navidad and Happy Holidays to the Deucecast Family!

It's the annual Christmas list episode, and Dave, Mikey, and #TwitterlessDrEarl keep with tradition and bring on one of our favorite past and future guests, Carnegie Hall showstopper, podcaster, mother of an undisclosed amount of offspring, and the voice the d$ has a crush on -- Jennifer Kaufman!

Kaufman checks in with her latest, this time calling from the road, as Dave dives in with birthday movies (La La Land is legit 5 years old... and Jerry Maguire is 25... what...) and then a Hallmark themed round of Faux or Shaux... which movie titles are real, and which are unreal.

Finally, the movie families that each of the crew would want to spend their holidays with... from a super time with the Parrs to the richness of the Faders to having a wonderful life at Christmas to a holiday in the upper West side to Earl's pretentiousness overall to Jennifer with a Colin/Hugh choice to happy Sirius.

It's a fantastic time, a fun hour of laughs and movie memories, and even a little magic tossed in there.

Episode 509: The Christmas Movie Role Tourney

It's that time... Christmas time is here... it's time for Christmas vacation!

Well, not quite... but almost! On the first day of December, Mike, d$, and #TwitterlessDrEarl kicks off the month of Festive Movie Cheer with the first of several Christmas episodes... and this one is a doozy, as the trio tries to determine the best Christmas movie role of all time.  And yes, this is part of the Big Bracket Canon, that being the winner advances to the 32 movie role Big Bracket, now tentatively planned for September 2023...

Expect the long shots -- the JTTs and the Refs and those with handcuffs for the holidays.  And the classics, including Santa, good and Bad, and Clause, and a Prime Minister and both Sally AND Harry. And of course, the favorites, the Buddys, the Ralphies, the Kevins, the Clarks of the season.

One by one, they are pitted against each other, with votes being cast to determine who moves on, who is out, and which Christmas movie character stands tall at the end.

Episode 503: Actresses We Miss

The Deucecast Crew, including Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl love movies and the actresses in them, and felt it was high time to pay tribute to those who have since departed this mortal coil... especially since we gave the love to the Actors a few weeks ago (Ep 496), its time to do the same for the fairer gender.

Joining the show is the Spawn of Scotty Ryfun, the pride of Kennesaw, Lil G Garrison, as #TwitterlessDrEarl and Mikey give thoughts on The Last Duel, while Lil G and Dave look at Halloween Kills.

A round of Rotten Tomatoes ensues, featuring the film of one up and coming actor that you may not even know the name of -- but we know you've seen him.

Then, proper nods to the dead and buried, included legendary names like Hepburn and Gilda and Cloris and Ingrid and more.  Finally, a late addition of Birthday Movies for October!

Episode 499: The One Before

Well, here we are, one week out from the biggest episode we've had since the last big episode we had. It's the Deucecast Movie Show and before we get to 500, we have to do 499.  And in the spirit of the One Before, Dave, Mikey, and #TwitterlessDrEarl are celebrating ones before... or more specifically, movies that have a story before the story that you've already seen...

Prequels.

No, not THOSE Prequels... well, not just those Prequels. These are the origin stories, the lead ups, the ones that show us how the big movies got their own stories to tell. How Bumblebee met an unassuming Hailee Steinfeld and how Professor X ended up in the wheelchair and how Silent Bob met Jay and why is Indy 2 set before Indy 1? These are the questions that get answered!

Plus, a new IMDb game, this one all about the Top Four... and paying off the summer, finally, the 2021 edition of DAVESPLOSION!

Finally, all the news you need to know about the next episode, coming Friday, 8p Eastern, 5p Pacific... The Deucecast Movie Show Episode 500.

Wednesday, September 15, 2021

Episode 498: Cinematic Inspiration

The human world is definitely a mess, and life at the Deucecast is better than anything they got out dere... so come let us inspire you!

Mikey, d$, and the vaunted and legendary icon #TwitterlessDrEarl are here to bring you the some of the most inspiring films we could find, movies that lift us up, make us happy, pump us with energy and a will to live.  A little bit of vim, and a lot of vigor.

And somewhere along the way, the party is crashed by Friend of the Show Scotty Ryfun, who just randomly pops in to say hello, and ends up sticking around to give his own list!

Also discussed along the way... the career of Chris Makepeace... Mikey working on his fitness... d$ runs fast... love for Olympia Dukakis... behind the scenes on Flight 93... Eddie & Steve... more Malick from #TwitterlessDrEarl...

Episode 497: The Tourney of American Treasures

The big 5-0-0 approaches, but there are still movie discussions to be had before then! On the 497th excursion into podcast mediocrity, Dave, Mikey, and #TwitterlessDrEarl chat a bit, then get to Birthday Movies -- Sully is 5 years old! Wicker Park is 15 years old! And somehow the math is off, and The Shawshank Redemption is... 27 years old?

Then, we find the next movie role to make the Big Bracket... and it's a intertwined battle of two American treasures, one being K Costner and the other being M Keaton.

From Birdman to Johnny Dangerously to Eliot Ness to Roy McAvoy, some of our favorite movies and movie characters do battle, plus a great conversation on the legacy of Keaton's Batman, and Peak Whitney.

Episode 496: Actors We Miss

The Deucecast Crew, including Mikey and Dave, sans #TwitterlessDrEarl (who is spending time earning his minor is podiatry instead of being on this episode) love movies and the actors in them, and felt it was high time to pay tribute to those who have since departed this Mortal Coil... and to give the proper nod to the dead and buried, the Spawn of Scott Ryfun, that being Lil G, the pride of TyTy, joins the show for a look at the ones we miss!

First up, remembering Chadwick Boseman, as we look at one year since he left us.

Then, a rousing round of The Dead Actor Rotten Tomatoes game... which movies are fresh, which are rotten?

Then a look at the faves of the crew, as we discuss actors who have passed in recent (and not so recent) years, and the movies they featured in, from "Skin Deep" to "Moneyball" to "The Philadelphia Story" to which "The Vanishing" is awesome and which one sucks.

Episode 494: The Summer Movie Tournament

The summer is winding down, the Deucecast Movie Show is headed toward 500, and another ReFlicktions is right around the corner... but first, the cherry atop the summer series.

And what better way to cap off the award winning, acclaimed, BET Source Award nominated Summer Movie Series than to pick out some of the biggest roles and make it a full on, official Big Bracket Movie Role Tournament... with the winner joining Castor Troy, Jerry Maguire, Indiana Jones, and more in the Big Bracket coming... later. Much later.

Thirty two roles, matched up one by one, until there is only one.

And what better way to make this happen than to bring on The Spawn of Ryfun, the one and only Son of the Pride of Bainswick, Georgia, Lil G Ryfun!

McLovin gets tons of McLove... which Goldblum is better... how much does Mikey love My Big Fat Greek Wedding... can Pee Wee move on... who's the real Patriot... will Connor4Real never stop? or Never stop never stopping?... and the first real life person in the movie role tourney!

And a vicious battle between a high school Emma and a ghost seer...

Plus... we have ourselves a tiebreaker... a special guest who comes roaring in like a wrecking ball.

The summer is half over, and the summer series is rounding the corner toward homestretch (that's a baseball metaphor for you folks out there). Mikey and Dave, again sans #TwitterlessDrEarl, take up the mantle of more summer cinema, this time the best from Memorial Day to Labor Day in 2000 to 2004, and the guys bring back Miss Independent himself Jeremy Burgess to the show.

After catching up with The Burgeler (new reality show premiered this Fall on ABC), they play a little 2000s themed Rotten Tomatoes game, with the possible first time mention of "Shark Tale" ever on the podcast (and maybe the first time since the early 2000s anyone has thought of it), then onto the Top Five.

Nic Cage and Costner both make random appearances, with Spielberg films about airports and pre-cognitions also show up. Plus, the lower of the Mission Impossibles, Jamie Foxx and his Collateral, the beginning of the super hero era, Harry Potter shows up, Nicole Kidman's classics, Jay and Silent Bob go after their MoFo movie check, and the Black Pearl.

Episode 485: Top Summer Movies of 1985-89

The heat is on, as Glenn Frey would say -- fitting that it's from Miami Vice, a TV show right in the era that Dave, Mikey, & Dr Earl take on tonight!  The summer films from 1985 thru 1989, any movie that came out from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend in those respective years.

And the lists of "could be in my Top Five" are growing every block of movie years, and so it was important we bring on someone who was in their movie prime as the guys are -- Nick, host of Podcast of The Whills (and the new MOM CU), joins the show for the first time to break it all down and list them all out.

First up, a little chat on what exactly Podcast of the Whills actually is (hint: its from a Star War), then a little Brat Pack guess 'em game -- think you know the 80s movies of Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson, Rob Lowe, and Emilio Estevez? In the latest Deucecast Movie Show, Mikey & Dave give #TwitterlessDrEarl the night off to go handle some sort of neurosurgeony things, longtime friend of the show, author/singer/blogger/supermom/Carnagie Hall headliner Jenn Kaufman returns!!!

Some chit chat and catch up moments, including the latest films Kaufman has watched, then a Kaufman themed Rotten Tomatoes game, which leads into the Top Five of the show.

And the top five is Most Meaningful Films... those movies that might be amazing, might be terrible, or somewhere in between, but hold a special place in the hearts of the three on the show.  Mikey, d$, and Kaufman all share anecdotes about kids, lifelong fandom, recent films that really stuck with them and more.
