Episode 661: Wicked December ReFlicktions

HAPPY NEW YEAR from all of us guys here at The Deucecast Movie Show!  2025 is here, and we are anxiously awaiting Mickey 17, Fantastic Four: The First Steps, Thunderbolts, more Avatar, and whatever else ridiculousness the movie year will bring us...

...but first, we have to put 2024 to bed, at least in terms of movies seen. Thus, our final ReFlicktions show of the year! 

First, d$ finds some movie "white whales", including his beloved Katie Heigl... Dr Earl goes all in on music docs... our former show producer's offspring makes a movie... Episode 660: The 2024 Christmas Gifts (and our Lumps of Coal!)

For the 10th straight year, Mikey and d$ are giving away the Gifts of Christmas!  #XLessDrEarl has been joining the ep for many years now, and as Kaufman makes the Christmas Ep her home annually, so goes Garrison "Pride of Dahlonega" Ryfun with Christmas Gifts... and this year, we combine it with our annual Lumps of Coal ep!

So first, we highlight the lowlights of the year... films that didn't just quite resonate with us. Some from good directors, some with good scripts, and even some with great casts -- but movies that fell flat for one reason or another... and leave it to Dr. Earl to bring the big names to the list.

Then, after we bring the negative, we look at the positive, giving some great gifts all around -- to our fave actors, to our fave directors, even to studios to get them a little help.  Plus, a few movies seen on behalf of others... and the first tangible gift ever given in a Christmas Gifts episode!

Episode 659: The Best Christmas Movie Draft Ever

Two voices always emerge every December, even if they haven't been heard on the show all year... first, The Cheetah Girls, reminding us that it is, in fact, a Marshmallow World... and second, the beloved Carnegie Hall headliner herself, Jennifer Kaufman... and it's now that very time!

In this episode, Mikey and d$ welcome in Friend of the Show Roth from Wyoming and the aforementioned Jenny Kauf, not only to catch up a little, but also to do our very first Christmas Movie Draft.

Picking films to fit into 7 categories - Movies with Santa... RomComs... Christmas Comedies... Christmas Classic films (anything from the 20th Century, really)... Unconventional holiday films... Short films (60 minutes or less)... and Wild Card... each of the foursome picks and drafts movies to their own lineup, in an effort to have the best Christmas Film lineup of the show!

In the latest Deuceecast Movie Show ep, the last of the scary movie season slips away, as the merry movie season begins to take hold for 2024!

Episode 562: Have Yourself a Kaufman Little Christmas

The Christmas season is in full swing, with our series of Christmas episodes finally set to begin -- big props to Aussie Nate, Roth from Wyoming, and Lil G for hosting last week...

But the real losers are back in the saddle, with Mikey and d$ taking control again -- #TwitterlessDrEarl off on assignment doing Doctors with Some Borders (because he's pretentious)

It's becoming an annual tradition - one that we find out isn't as old as we thought, but still will be from here anyway - and that is bringing former Delightful Life podcast host and Disney Nerds podcast co-host and sort of blogger and avid hockey fan and mom of 3-7, though we aren't sure, and the greatest voice on our show, one Jennifer Kaufman!

A little bit of chit chat and catching up -- including the movies she's seen, like "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever"
, and Mikey's review of "Christmas Bloody Christmas" and d$'s take on "Violent Night", and a defense of "Spirited" -- they dive into a jolly round of Dylan McDermott Mulroney, starring Candace, Danica, and Lacey! 

Then the Top Five of the Week... the trio's fave non-Christmas movies to watch at Christmas, with some films possibly being a Christmas movie, some films having parts of Christmas in it, and some having nothing to do with Christmas whatsoever.

Episode 561: 3 Podcast Men (the guest host show)

While Mikey has missed maybe 2 episodes, and d$ has missed maybe 3 eps, and #TwitterlessDrEarl has only been a regular for the last few hundred eps, now for the first time in almost 12 years and 560 episodes, neither Mikey nor d$ nor #TwitterlessDrEarl are on the show itself.

Instead, three show icons, three show legends, three show fan favorites, three show regulars take over the show... Aussie Nate, Spawn of Ryfun, aka, Lil G, and Roth from Wyoming pick up the reigns as the regular guys are out of action for the week (re: d$ is in Orlando and Mikey is watching movies and #TwitterlessDrEarl just likes the weekend off) and after firing off a quick round of Rotten Tomatoes, they dive right into Top Five Recasted Characters.

From a super spy to a dark knight to a space smuggler to Old Kris Kringle himself, Lil G, Aussie, and Roth serve up their fave characters that were redone even better.

Also, Garrison has never seen Christmas Vacation, and hates Ernest movies, so he will likely not ever be asked back.

Episode 509: The Christmas Movie Role Tourney

It's that time... Christmas time is here... it's time for Christmas vacation!

Well, not quite... but almost! On the first day of December, Mike, d$, and #TwitterlessDrEarl kicks off the month of Festive Movie Cheer with the first of several Christmas episodes... and this one is a doozy, as the trio tries to determine the best Christmas movie role of all time.  And yes, this is part of the Big Bracket Canon, that being the winner advances to the 32 movie role Big Bracket, now tentatively planned for September 2023...

Expect the long shots -- the JTTs and the Refs and those with handcuffs for the holidays.  And the classics, including Santa, good and Bad, and Clause, and a Prime Minister and both Sally AND Harry. And of course, the favorites, the Buddys, the Ralphies, the Kevins, the Clarks of the season.

One by one, they are pitted against each other, with votes being cast to determine who moves on, who is out, and which Christmas movie character stands tall at the end.

Episode 454: Second Chance Movies

It's a big week at The Deucecast Movie Show... no, not because of some election thing, but because another episode is dropping!  Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl take a look at movies that deserved a second chance. 

First up, Birthday Movies! Toy Story! Harry Potter! Star Wars! Rocky! Transylvania 6-5000! What movies are turning 5, 10, 15 and 20 years old or more.
