My favorite summer continues and this week, it's time to get funny with the ha-ha... because comedies are one of the most important genre of all. Because we love to laugh at the stupid, at the smart, at the dark, at the iconic, and at the silly. 

Returning to the show after being our co-announcer and narrator at this year's Deucie Awards, The Amish Girl herself Jenn Novotny brings all the smile and humor... as well as a rant on an innocent actress and her Oscar winning performance.

First up, a little Denzel game, and catching up with Jenn and her world travels.

Episode 618: Bad Dates in Movies

It's once again the Day of Love at The Deucecast Movie Show, and that means d$, Mikey, and #XLessDrEarl are joined once again by The Burge himself, Jeremy "Miss Independent" Burgess -- and the Film Four are here to break down the "Coyote vs Acme" drama over at Warner Brothers, and to discuss Jeremy's thoughts on the Oscar nominations.

Then, the Top Five Bad Dates in Movies... whether it's weekends away that go horribly awry, nights that fall apart, or even awkward dinners and special events, it's all those times on screen when characters just can't make it click -- from news station anchor love to the Frank or the Beans to speed dating with Seth Rogan to unfortunate run ins at German restaurants and spicy foods.

Then, the 7th Annual Burgentine's Day, when the show crew, plus a selected few, assign Valentines themed films for Jeremy's viewing pleasure, including TiMER (Chef Melissa) and Charade (d$) and Say Anything... (Dr Earl) and Paperback Hero (Aussie Nate) to Gross Pointe Blank (Mikey)

Episode 395: It's all Relative

Sometimes you just need family, and when its the family in the movies, its even better.  Mikey, Dave and #TwitterlessDrEarl tackle the topic of relatives in movies... but to get an expert word on it, two people who excel at being father and son -- Scotty Ryfun and Garrison, the Spawn of Ryfun, also known as the Pride of Tifton Georgia!

But first, birthday movies!  Checking out the movies that released in August in 2014 (Birdman!), 2009, 2004 and on and on back, all the way until 55 years ago, when Mary Poppins came out.

A rousing game of Denzel with all the guys, and then a great top five list filled with movies that feature actors and actresses that are blood relative... Sheens!  Cusacks!  Bridges!  Wilsons!  Branaugh and Thompsons... wait, what?

Ryfun puts his own spin on the list itself, as #TwitterlessDrEarl cannibalizes Dave's list, and Mikey desperately searches for any relative of Kevin Costner who was in the same movie so Mikey can make that one movie his entire list.

Fun. Frivolity. Ryfuns.  Good times. Great oldies.

Episode 388: Hot Summer Flicks

The Earth is scorching, the sun that tried to kill Mario in the game is trying to kill us too, and the floor is lava everywhere. The only place hotter than summer right now is the super hot dudes in The Deucecast Movie Show studios!

After the rundown of birthday movies -- can you believe American Pie, Blair Witch and Eyes Wide Shut are TWENTY years old??  Plus, True Lies at 25... Bernie died 30 years ago... The Muppets took Manhattan 35 years ago... that creepy house told us to get out 40 years ago... and we had a Death Wish 45 years ago this month!

Then, Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl tackle a sizzling topic... best Summer Films! Movies set in and around the summertime months, including Beach Flicks (One Crazy Summer!) and Mountain Flicks (White Water Summer!) and political Flicks (Do the Right Thing!) and much, much more.

Episode 365: Valentine's Opportunities

Another February is here, meaning another day of Valentine's love is in the wings!  And if Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl aren't enough, Friend of the Show Jennifer "Juniper" Kaufman joins the show to add a softer voice and a girls touch to the topic itself.


First up, Birthday Movies to talk about what was released in February five, ten, fifteen, twenty years ago -- movies like The Lego Movie, Office Space, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, and even a fave of Friend of the Show Burgess, The Jonas Brothers 3D Concert Experience!

Friend of the Show, Miss Independent himself Burgess calls in from his 24th film festival in 2019 over in Mississippi, to give his results of this year's Burgentine's Day -- he reviews the movies assigned to him by the crew.

The topic in the episode is not just Valentine's movies, but those movies that are bad -- not just guilty pleasures, but Rom Com Chick Flicks that the crew feels like they may be the only ones to actually like. The Deucecast Movie Show continues to look at the best movies of the 21st Century, this time turning attention to their Favorite Romantic Comedies of the Century.  But can Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl truly give perspective on such RomCom masterpieces like "Legally Blonde" or "Hitch"? Probably not.

Episode 238: August ReFlicktions (with Predator's Brother!)

Dave, Mikey & Pinky convene again to discuss a boatload, a bounty, NAY a sheer plethora cornucopia of movies that have been watched, witnessed and absorbed in the last few weeks, and to do that, Dr Earl, the resident Terrence Malick apologist and film historian, makes another appearance into the studio.

And special guest for a short time... you might have seen him in Predator... in Big Top Pee Wee... maybe in Harry & the Hendersons... he's always the big guy, he's Kevin Peter Hall!!  Well, since KPH has passed away many years ago, there is the next best thing, the Brother of the Predator, Sean Hall graces the studio for a few minutes.

Episode 208: Comedy Confusion

Once again, the Deucecast Movie Show blackmails talks a great guest into coming on the show!

First, Dave, Mikey & Pinky welcome in Friend of the Show, Terence Malick Apologist and Film Historian Dr Earl to toss out some Birthday Movies, those films that came out this month five, ten, twenty years ago!  Because you needed to know how old Jean Claude Van Damme's Lionheart actually is, we are there for you.

Then, the guys talk all about Guilty Pleasure Comedies of the 2000s... unless you are Mikey, who did Legit Comedies of the 2000s... and unless you are Dr Earl, who did Comedies of the First 10 Years of the Century... and Pinky, who just showed up when he wanted to.

 Black Dynamite... Pitch Perfect... Zoolander... Bench Warmers and more and more.

Then, in reverse order, a little Ryan Phillippe Game going on before the show ends!

Conan the Barbarian makes an appearance in Pretty in Pink, while Pinky gets assigned another classic.

Once again, its time for Valentine's Pink assignments!  Not only Dr Earl, but Friends of the Show Jennifer Kaufman and Remodeling Clay join it to give Pinky a few Valentine's movies to watch and review, including a lightheared romp from Dr Earl and a movie originally titled Monkey Heart.

Episode 178: Movie Musical Scenes feat. Paige Davis

The guys join together to talk about a topic that may be foreign to a couple of them... not just musical movies, but musical scenes from movies, whether its a musical or not. 

Not only do d$, Mikey and Pinky need to bring in some help, in the form of Nikki B and the resident Terrence Malick apologist and classic movie historian, Dr. Earl, but for this great topic, we needed to pull in the experts...

None other than Paige Davis herself, she of TV (Trading Spaces, OWN network), Broadway fame (Beauty & the Beast, Chicago), stage play (Dancing Lessons) and a great blogger and writer in her own right... Paige calls in to discuss all the music in movies fit to discuss.

The lists vary from High Fidelity's Jack Black and his Marvin Gaye impression to Ferris Bueller atop a float to Baby carrying a watermelon to Lloyd Dobler and his boombox... but lest we forget the older films too, like West Side Story, Meet Me In St. Louis, The Sound of Music, and Sister Act II: Back in the Habit? Seriously? 

Paige also shares great little stories of working with Eddie Redmayne onstage, being a back up dancer with Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys and her issues with Les Miserables the movie.

And somehow, we manage a Pretty in Pink with Pinky discussing "The Last Unicorn". 

All in all, a great episode that we know you will love, whether you like musicals or not!
