The Deucecast Oscar Challenge

Here's how it works... as you might have heard on The Deucecast Episode XLIII: Podcast with the Wind, we have laid down an Oscar challenge... Mikey and d$, plus guest hosts Drew & Hurricane Rhett have all picked the Oscar winners.  One point for each correct guess, highest points in the end wins the challege.

And what is the prize?  The ability to set forth upon the other players the demand that they watch any movie requested.  For example, when d$ wins, he can then assign Mikey to watch the Patrick Swayze masterpiece "Black Dog", assign to Drew the Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen awesomeness that is "It Takes Two" and then give to Hurricane Rhett the demand that he watch the Australian ballroom dance classic "Strictly Ballroom".  So, much rides upon the game.

Episode XLIII: Podcast With The Wind

Welcome back to The Deucecast... or with our guest co-host, could it be... The DrewsCast?

As per usual, we imbibe a little with our Beverage Tasting of the Week, this time a little more fancy with Hubert's Mango Lemonade and Honey Lemonade.  And surprisingly, it wasn't bad. (!)

We dive into racial expression with a discussion on the Jeremy Lin/ESPN headline kerfuffle with varied opinions... what did the columnist know?  When did he know it?   The Deucecast spares no expense for hard-hitting journalistic journalism with our journalists.

Mikey waxes poetic about his weekend Missouri trip, including a stop at the Clinton Library and Massage Parlor... the guys have a longer-than-intended discussion about The Eagles, plus former members Randy Misner and Timothy Schmit... and somehow, the band Heart and its music makes it way into the discussion. We also jump into movies seen this week, like "This Means War"... "Ghost Rider 2: Nic Cage Sucks Again"... "Real Steel"... and more "Phantom Menace" talk.

Whitney Houston is featured in the Music Minute Spotlight, as we discuss her legacy and memories, plus some of her best music, at least according to d$.

After a great Buried Treasure in which Mikey digs up "Day of the Tenticle", Drew brings out the Big Guns during his first Smorg, asking the question "What Makes Us Like Movies", leading the group to talk about what truly gets us in favor of, or against, a film... rewatchability... emotion... how it makes you feel... and as Mikey says, "divisiveness".

Our Big Three topic shares the movies that YOU should see... little scene or perhaps forgotten films that you might have missed, so in our opinions, you need to see movies like "Suicide Kings"... a diehard NFL fan in "Big Fan"... an early Coen brothers favorite in "Blood Simple"... and a movie better than "Dirty Dancing"?  Dig it!

Oh, and we talk about "Bridesmaids" again.

NEXT WEEK... Our Oscar recap, what went right and what went wrong... d$'s classic Buried Treasure... Mikey's Crappy Musical Crap... more movies seen... Celebrity Apprentice... and The Big Three Oscar Mistakes of All Time (not counting Marisa Tomei, Saving Private Ryan's snub and anything from this year)... that's on The Deucecast Episode XLIV: Inglorious Podcasters

Episode XLII: Podcastablanca

For the first time in The Deucecast Studios... we got ourselves a chick on the air.  Like, a real life girl.  Like, she's a she.  A chick co-hosting?  Dig it!

Mikey's younger sista' Stephanie is making the rounds in our town, and she graced us with her presence for the 42nd episode of The Deucecast: Podcastablanca.  Mikey and d$ lead the show, with Steph in tow, and Producer Drew on the sound effects and production board.

We kick it right off with our weekly beverage tasting, sampling a bit of the Jarritos soda straight from The Pesos Store (its a sponsor of our sister show in Cancun, "The DosCast").  And its definitely an interesting taste, to say the least.  Don't forget to join Club Jarritos!

The show dives into wonderful topics like Mikey's sick kid... d$'s two-month old travails... Drew's random week... and Steph gives us the lowdown of life in her new home of Missouri (plus the scary travels in the backwoods of Arkansas).  We also touch on such fun things like "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" in 3D... JarJar Binks... the possibility of both a "Ghostbusters 3" and a "Beetlejuice 2" (bad on both counts)... more Michael Bay nonsense... movie reviews like Mikey's thoughts on "Before the Devil Knows Your Dead" and d$'s thoughts on the Anna Faris classic "What's Your Number?"...

The Finale of The Saddest Songs of All Time is here!  A quick (?) recap of numbers 25 through 6, then the Top Five most heartbreaking, most soul crushing, most painful songs ever, with classic country, some Broadway and a Prince-written theme.

Does this pain ever stop?!?!?

Mikey busts out a Peanutty buried treasure... then he goes toe-to-toe with his sister Steph in a new game called "The Coffee Date Game", as in, who would you rather have coffee with?  Hugh Jackman?  Natalie Portman?  Taye Diggs?  Or... Rosie O'Donnell?!

How can you watch Titanic twice in a row on HBO?  Find out here!
And in our Big Three, its a spirited talk of Our Favorite Chick Flicks of All Time, including d$'s reveal of his favorite movie of all time, plus many movies never before discussed here, like "that thing you do!" and "Julie &  Julia" and "10 Things I Hate About You" and even more!  Jerry Maguire!  ...Say Anything!  and Beautiful Girls!

This week's Audible selection of the week:  The Stand by Stephen King, on 47 hours of glorious audio. Get it FREE when you sign up for a free trial at AudibleTrial.com/deuce ... its like making a donation to our show!

And next week, d$'s Music Minute pays tribute to Whitney Houston... Mikey busts out a crazy, random Buried Treasure... we give you our Oscar picks (with a bet on the line)... and Drew comes back as not a producer but a co-host with the first edition of Drew's Smorg!  That's all on The Deucecast Episode XLIII: Podcast with the Wind!

Episode XLI: The Podfather

It's a full house in The Deucecast Studios, as not only are d$ and Mikey steering the pirate ship, the swingin' Doc Earl joins us in-studio, while Drewski takes over the tech duties from an AWOL Producer Tommy.

Like many shows before, we kick it off by expanding our palate horizons in trying a new beverage.  Its called Jumex, though its pronounced Hu-Mex... that will be funny when you listen to the show itself.

Among the many topics spoken of tonight... crying babies... Super Bowl commercials... the Phantom Menace in 3D... the miscasting of The Fantastic Four movies... The Voice vs. American Idol... the 90s success (and 2000s plunge) of Anne Rice and her vampires... the similarities in crappy Burt Reynolds films... Ahnold and Sly's new duet... Mikey's fading crush on Nic Cage...

Mikey features an actual, good Music Minute this week!  Plus, a Buried Treasure brings forth the character of Philo Beddoe and a monkey named Clyde... an epic Movie Game nearly shuts out one of us completely in a shocker... and in Dying with Dr. Earl, we find out the difference in Midichlorians, Milochondrians and what the heck is Mesothelioma?  Find out.

d$ continues his countdown of The 25 Saddest Songs Ever, including tunes from Bonnie Raitt (which is then ruined by Mikey's Jon Bon Iver crap), Gloria Estefan, Brian McKnight, the Rev'rn Al Green and an Alanis vs. The Police quick debate.

Finally, our Big Three takes on President's Day, with our favorite fictional presidents and their portrayals... President Whitmore!  President Shepherd!  President Dale!  President Mitchell!  And even some real presidents like Nixon and Adams make an appearance.

Mikey and d$ also recap the nearly 15 movies seen over the last week, including "The Descendants"... "Midnight in Paris"... "Winnebago Man"... "Drive"... and, of course, "Boogie Nights".

Don't forget next week as we get a very, very special guest in studio, helping us discuss The Big Three Favorite Chick Flicks Ever... d$ takes the Music Minute, giving you the Five Saddest Songs Ever, to celebrate Valentine's Day... plus our takes on The Phantom Menace in 3D... all on The Deucecast Episode XLII:  Podcastablanca!!

Episode 40: The Podshank Redemption

Its a big deal around here, as The Deucecast reaches the Big 4-0... no, not 40 years, or even 40 months... but 40 weeks!  Our 40th episode brings Hurricane Rhett up in the hizzy, fo' rizzy... okay, that's possibly the whitest thing I've ever typed...

Did Hurricane Rhett really dig this, or was he just showboating?
Listen and decide for yourself.
Right off the bat, we try some really good drinks from Rob... that being, Rob's Really Good drinks.  Hurricane Rhett even gets a delighted surprise as he enjoys his cucumberness.

Then the show gets rolling as Mikey, d$ and Rhett discuss movies like "Rango" and "The Green Hornet"... the attainability of Kate Jackson vs. the other Angels, and which of the new Angels is most attainable (Drew Barrymore for d$, Lucy Liu for Mikey)... puppy love... puppy hospital hate... and a Music Minute that sounds like Harold Faltermayer ("Alex F") and Herbie Hancock threw up in the same petry dish and they spilled it on a 1984 synthesizer.

Other things discussed in earnest vary by such topics as "World's Dumbest..." on TruTV... the death of Ian Abercrombie (no Fitch, though)... Ryan Seacrest and Mark Cuban... "Super High Me" and "Freakonomics"... SAG Award highlights... debating whether to go see "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" in 3D... and our very first Kenny G Watch!

Carl Weathers gets some real love in a great Buried Treasure... and d$'s countdown of The Top 25 Saddest Songs Ever continues with Part III, including heartbreak from Whitney Houston... heartache from Blessid Union of Souls... misery from Whitney... irony from Ho-Jo... and this gem, featured in "Notting Hill", d$'s 15th favorite film of all time:

Finally, another edition of Reel or Unreel, plus The Big Three Biggest Drop-Offs from One Sequel to the Next, including movies from such franchises as Star Trek... Grease... Superman... Rocky... Indiana Jones... and even Teen Wolf!

Join us next week as we attempt to bring in The Good Doctor Earl, and ask him what exactly is Mesothelioma?... more crap from Mikey... Bonnie Raitt and Brian McKnight in Part IV of the Saddest Songs Ever... and The Big Three Best Presidents in TV and Movie History.  That's all on The Deucecast Episode XLI:  The Podfather!
