Episode 571: ReFlicktionmania!! (and the Deucie Nominations!!)

The award season has almost hit it's peak, but of course, the Oscars are only the penultimate ceremony in recognizing the year's best in film -- there is the Deucie Awards... the 10th annual Deucies, as a matter of fact! 

And to give those out, we must first announce who is in the running -- so tonight, you'll get those nominations revealed to you!

Episode 570: Fave Romantic Action Couples

It's the annual Valentine's Day celebration, and in typical Deucecast Fashion, we're doing it the day after, when everything is on sale.

Deucecast Extra: Gunn's DC Plans & The Bad Batch

In an extra ep from The Deucecast - mostly in part because d$ is currently on a boat in the Caribbean Sea, but also because #TwitterlessDrEarl just wanted a day off, and Mikey didn't feel like recording on a Tuesday morning.

But either way, it's an audio experience of the Deucecast Extra on the YouTube Channel, this time all about James Gunn's speech concerning the future of DC films. Plus Rhett is here to say things like "The majority of the population are morons.

Episode 569: Who Won 2022?

The new year has begun, winter is crashing around us, and it's time to reflect on what made our moviedom in the last year... and for the second time, we ask, Who Won the Year?  And maybe for the first time, because we can't remember, we ask Who Also Lost the Year?

First up, a few quick reviews -- "Living", as seen by Dr Earl, "Aftersun" as seen by Mikey and Dr. Earl, and "Women Talking", as seen by Mikey and Dave... and those Oscar nominated films lead into the discussion of the recent Oscar nominations, with Mikey going all in on Top Gun Maverick... Dave making a case for Everything Everywhere All At Once... and Dr Earl chiming in with pretention.

Then, a top five of the winners and the losers... how can Margot Robbie be both?  And Tom Hanks down year, with Tom Cruise's amazing year... who won the animation game... big time directors taking a hit, but big time blockbusters becoming a hit... too much Korg, just enough Jimmy Cam, and not enough Hong Chau.

Of course, the usual rabbit trails of random conversation. 

Episode 568: The Not 2022 Top Ten (Here We Go Again!)

The review of 2022 film is in full swing, but first there is the annual look back at the movies seen last year that were NOT FROM last year. Its the Not 2022 Top Ten, where we highlight films worthy of a second discussion because they just impacted us so much.

Episode 565: 2022 Surprise and Delights

 Each year, there are the movies that perhaps are not on Mikey's, Dave's, or #TwitterlessDrEarl's top fives or top tens, but they are still movies that surprised everyone... and delighted everyone... unexpected pleasant moviegoing experiences if you will.  

And every year, Friend of the Show, Miss Independent Jeremy Burgess joins up for the episode, giving his own surprises and delights.

First up, Burgess is assigned his annual Burgentine's Day -- sure, it's early, but Home Goods had V-Day stuff up before Christmas, so we feel okay about this. 

Then, the guys jump right into their Top 5 films that they went into unsure about, perhaps with little to no expectations... and came out of surprised at how delighted they found the movies... and delighted at the surprise of how delightful it was. Or something.

The Christmas season is in full swing, with our series of Christmas episodes finally set to begin -- big props to Aussie Nate, Roth from Wyoming, and Lil G for hosting last week...

But the real losers are back in the saddle, with Mikey and d$ taking control again -- #TwitterlessDrEarl off on assignment doing Doctors with Some Borders (because he's pretentious)

It's becoming an annual tradition - one that we find out isn't as old as we thought, but still will be from here anyway - and that is bringing former Delightful Life podcast host and Disney Nerds podcast co-host and sort of blogger and avid hockey fan and mom of 3-7, though we aren't sure, and the greatest voice on our show, one Jennifer Kaufman!

While Mikey has missed maybe 2 episodes, and d$ has missed maybe 3 eps, and #TwitterlessDrEarl has only been a regular for the last few hundred eps, now for the first time in almost 12 years and 560 episodes, neither Mikey nor d$ nor #TwitterlessDrEarl are on the show itself.

Episode 555: The Most Inept Movie Bad Guys

When you get five and half-a-hunna episodes into your podcast, including 12 Halloween Episodes, you can't always do "Best Villains"... sometimes you have to go the other way, and do the "Worst Villains", or more specifically, "The Most Incompetent Bad Guys" in films.

October birthday movies up first, as Blade Runner 2049 celebrates its 5th birthday, The Might Ducks has it's 30th birthday, and The Manchurian Candidate turns 60 (RIP Angela Lansbury!)

Guest of the night, Miss Independent himself Jeremy Burgess joins the show to fill us on on Dust on the VCR as well as the update on the upcoming film Don't Die.

Then, Mikey, Dave, #TwitterlessDrEarl, and Burgess give their own list of greatly terrible bad guys in film -- written well but played poorly, or the storyline they are given is terrible, or flashy but totally ineffective for any number of reasons.

Finally, MikeTober #9 commences, with Mikey giving his recap and ranking of "Speak No Evil", "Dog Soldiers", "The Vanishing" and some other movie I can't remember but he didn't like as much.

Episode 554: The Best Henchmen in Film

Halloween is quickly approaching as the fall rolls on, and the spooky movies are already on deck for both Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl. But before they get to Halloween proper (and the annual Halloween ep coming in a few weeks), they'll spend a little time with some of the other mean, evil, and sometimes incompetent characters of film.

First, quick chatter about recent movies taken in, including "Amsterdam" and "Werewolf By Night", then a Rotten Tomatoes game featuring the good, and bad, movies made by the master of horror fiction, Stephen King himself. Everything from the acclaimed like "Stand by Me" to the forgotten, like "The Mangler".  Everyone figures Mikey will win this one too. Right? Right.

Then, the Henchmen. Those who don't run the show, but do the bidding of those movie villains who do. Then again, sometimes the Henchmen in question are really the ones in charge. Either way, each of the Deucecast trio brings their own favorites to their lists.

Plus... the short career of Alexander Godunov and a
multiverse world where Harrison Ford is a dentist on Friends and Tom Selleck wields a whip.
